Does anyone realize the magnitude of Obama potentially becoming President?

I feel like it is something that people are almost forgetting these days. A black man named Barack Hussein Obama has the chance of becoming President of the greatest free nation on this planet.

50 years ago a Barack Obama could not have existed in American politics. To have him win, would be an enormous affirmation of how far this country has come. I truly believe a man like Obama can unite this country into its next social and cultural revolution.

The more I follow this election the more I think to myself what is really at stake here. This is bigger than the Iraq War and even bigger than the economy. This is a chance for Americans to define our identity once again.

It's starting to feel like destiny that Obama will win this election. It really is.

 Agreed.

Time for voters to put this country back on the right track for the first time this century.

Forever lose hope in humanity, and this country, that the people can look at McCain and think he's the best answer to our problems.

Yes, I think it's good that he's Black but it doesn't, to my knowledge, make me endorse him any further. He's disappointed me in a few regards but overall I remain very confident that him and Biden are the best option at this point. I really, really hope that they win, and I really think that they will.
Hoe that McCain isn't as bad as he seems.
Yep.

I'm hoping Obama's as GOOD as he appears to be.

The alternative is far south of Suck City.

barack obama is not a black man.

Nor is he caucasian, which every previous President has been. If he wins it will be seen as a major advancement for the best of American ideals, both here and around the world.

After eight years of an administration of traitors, murderers, torturers, war criminals, war profiteers and all around lying scumbags, our image needs all the polish we can get. We certainly do NOT need more of the same.

considering how many non-white Prime Ministers/Presidents our caucasian brethren across the Atlantic have elected, they're probably not the ones whose opinion we should be preoccupying ourselves with.

barack obama will be a step up from bush, that's for sure. but I think it's a bit much to say that obama will be a uniter by the sheer virtue of his stranger of a father happening to be black despite all evidence of obama's partisanship proving otherwise. to say that it's destiny?

Condsidering how many non-caucasian Presidents WE've elected, they'd be more likely to give us a well deserved shout out of approval while wondering WTF took us so long to get our heads out of our collective asses and live the equality and freedom we preach, instead of just talking about it.

Oh look another lefty fixated on the color of the candidates skin.

You must be referring to loki8481, who posted:

I have no idea what he meant by that, but still...

Technically, he is a Mulatto*, as he has one black parent and one white parent. Culturally, people like this are often considered black, at least in the US. Realistically, they can't claim either label to its fullest extent.

*edit: biracial for the PC crowd...

I doubt "they" really care.

Here in totally colorblind America.

Obama represents what America is turning into, a true melting pot of cultures. Make no mistake, this is the future of America. A truly mutli-cultural diverse nation, in every sense of the word.

And in the context of our historically all caucasion leadership, why is this relevant to the OP's point? 😕
