does anyone NOT have a cell phone??

I have one because my employer supplies it. I usually don't answer calls while on the clock and it is off and on my desk at home when I'm not working. When I'm out and about I don't want people bothering me with what is usually something unimportant.

I pay for my wife's and kids' phones for safety and emergency purposes only because the wife and I both work.

Not me... I don't see the point. I wouldn't want to have people be able to contact me anywhere at any time. If they want to talk, they can call me at home, talk on MSN, whatever. I also find it really annoying when people talk on their cell phones in public like there's no one around them. Especially when they talk loudly.

Probably the majority of my friends have cell phones now, and I'm only in high school.

I'm 26 and I've never had one. I plan to try and go a while before getting one. I hate cell phones. There's been a few times where it would have come in handy to have one, but overall it's not a big deal to not have one. When I'm driving, I like to be left alone to my music. I don't answer my landline sometimes when I want to be alone so a cell phone would just annoy me more. Also, I'm not interested in paying $40 a month to have limited use of a phone that gets crappy reception most of the time. Everytime I talk on a cell phone, I feel like throwing it.

My clients are shocked I don't have a cell phone for my business but, hey, if you want to get ahold of me, use email or call my home phone. Nothing I do with my work is life threatening. You dont' need to be able to get ahold of me all the time.

I do and it's the only way to reach me.

No landline
No email (was using the schools but I graduated so I'm out)
No IM (I've had an away message up 24/7 for about a month, though I do sometimes log on from my phone)

I refuse to own one. Both my boss and my wife have demanded that I carry one but I stand strong. I DO NOT want to be completely accessible to everyone at all times.

You know, they do have power buttons and are fully capable of being turned off.

i think the real question is:

Who doesn't have Nextel 2-way?

I thought it would be difficult for them to come up with something more annoying than cell phones, but sure enough...

No kidding? I just don't have a desire to have one. I can't think of a time where I said to myself:

"self, you are a dumbass for not having a cell phone right now!!"

I don't. If I wanted people to be able to get ahold of me, I'd be somewhere with a phone nearby. Having a cell phone is like being chained up in the backyard 24/7. Anyone can find you.

I was going to say that. I'm surprised it took this long to be brought up! If you don't want to be bothered - turn the phone off. I have a cell phone and I don't even own a landline. I find this highly convenient, because when I don't want to be reached - I cannot be. Nobody can put my phone number in 411 and reverse-lookup my address like you easily can with landlines.

My friend pays $40/month for his landline. My plan with Telus Mobility costs $25/month.. of course I added options and with the fees, taxes, etc it ends up being more - but it's well worth it for the convenience it provides. Not only that, but I can call anyone else who uses Telus Mobility 100% free ANY TIME. Conveniently for me, most people I call who have cellular phones have Telus Mobility.

I can call or txt msg people any time anywhere... if I need to talk to someone and I'm not at home, I can! If I don't want to be bothered I turn off my ringer or turn off my phone. 😀

I don't have one, but then I haven't talked on the phone in like ten years either so I guess it all works out.
How in the world have you managed that?

I do business over the phone occasionally, a couple times a year maybe. But I don't talk on the phone just to talk on the phone. The last time I called someone up just to talk I was still in high school. I've managed this by being a hermit with no friends, and in general just being bitter at life.

No

If someone wants to contact me they must send me a letter via a wilderness guru who can find my small unmarked cabin.

Well, a decent cell can do all that in one nowadays 🙂

I have a few lines due to my work nature but I really don't want any of them. Same reason, I don't want to be reached all the time.

I got an "emergency" cell phone after 9-11. This "emergency phone" has 1000 daytime minutes and unlimited night and weekends.
