As somebody who took A-Level
(I have no idea what the US equivalent is - we generally take them at 18) biology a few years ago, I have to say I find your general faith in psuedo-health mumbo-jumbo mystifying.
Don't get me wrong, I expect the time-honoured practises of fasting and ritualised cleansing are very beneficial, but given the body of current understanding on human health issues, can we not make room for some conventional scientific thinking?
For those of use not suffering chronic lead poisoning, a healthy diet (5 vegetables a day, brown bread, minimal caffeine/alcohol etc. etc.) will be more than enough to keep the internal chemical balance, and adding regular exercise should make for all the 'detoxification' you need.
Actually (musing now) I suppose there may be some benefits in the fasting. As you lose your stores of fat, poisons such as DDT (and others which are still legally in use, notably those in diesel fumes) will be flushed out, since they accumulate in adipose tissue. Unfortunately, flushing them from the fat into the vital organs may not be the best of plans. Note, this is definitely NOT a good way to lose weight.
As for fibre, a low fibre diet will lead to an increased risk of bowel cancer, as well as constipation etc. However, a quick detox-fix for these is simply not going to happen. Kelloggs Bran Flakes every day are closer to the mark than a butch lady with a big hose.
