Does anyone know how to detoxify their body?

Has anyone done this?

I am just trying to find out how this is done. I think it's a combination of fasting, drinking lots of water, and maybe taking a few supplements...

Thanks, Edprush

A good 3-5 day water fast will totally detox you. Only drink water (min. 2 liters/day) and don't take supplements, and of course...don't eat anything. Just so you know, water fasts can be done safely for 2 weeks or more, so don't be scared by it. You might get sick the 2nd or 3rd day because fo all the toxins being released from your cells, but it will go away.

another option is juice fasting...you need a juicer for that though, and you only make it with fresh fruits (no store bought stuff)...those ones can be done much longer. The point is not to get any solid food into you, this way your whole digestive system and organs can be cleaned.

I know its disgusting, but I've read about camps where you go to detoxify yourself, basically you drink tons of water and give yourself an enema and different times of the day. However it supposedly really cleans out your large instestine. There were stories about how people pooped out marbles they had swallowed when they were kids, etc.

Eating certain vegetables that are high in fiber might help the cleansing process as well. The article also mentioned that after the detox process, you should be careful what you eat at first since your body will not be used to the toxins that you are taking back into your system.

Wow, thanks for the input...I was sure when I checked the posts to this thread there were going to be more jokes than serious replies.

Datafly- I've never heard of the guy you're talking about.

By the way, if anyone has any articles or URLs for me to check out (regarding detoxification) I would be very appreciative.

I thought about doing the "only water" detoxification but don't you need some fiber to go through your intestines to get the full cleansing?

I bought a juicer and it came with a book that tells you how to fast safely. And it says that it's the hardest the first 2 days. I think that's the only way to go if you wanna fast. Doing it with just water will be extremely hard man.

Out of curiosity, is this for health reasons, or is this to pass a drug test?

this depends a lot on your philosophy of cleansing...

This area is where the Kellogs of cereal fame got their start. They ran a holistic clinic that used cereals & bran, various baths, electrical stimulation, enemas of various types (including the bran ).

Most Indian tribes practiced cleansing rituals as well. Your local library should have information on the rituals.

A lot of herbalists can supply you with information as well.

Another way to get cleaned out is to rent a room at the YMCA and wait for Butch, Big Mike, and Junior to knock on your door. They will clean you out in many ways you have never thought of.

:confused:As somebody who took A-Level biology a few years ago, I have to say I find your general faith in psuedo-health mumbo-jumbo mystifying.

Don't get me wrong, I expect the time-honoured practises of fasting and ritualised cleansing are very beneficial, but given the body of current understanding on human health issues, can we not make room for some conventional scientific thinking?

For those of use not suffering chronic lead poisoning, a healthy diet (5 vegetables a day, brown bread, minimal caffeine/alcohol etc. etc.) will be more than enough to keep the internal chemical balance, and adding regular exercise should make for all the 'detoxification' you need.

Actually (musing now) I suppose there may be some benefits in the fasting. As you lose your stores of fat, poisons such as DDT (and others which are still legally in use, notably those in diesel fumes) will be flushed out, since they accumulate in adipose tissue. Unfortunately, flushing them from the fat into the vital organs may not be the best of plans. Note, this is definitely NOT a good way to lose weight.

As for fibre, a low fibre diet will lead to an increased risk of bowel cancer, as well as constipation etc. However, a quick detox-fix for these is simply not going to happen. Kelloggs Bran Flakes every day are closer to the mark than a butch lady with a big hose.

hmm there is a supplement called sun-chlorela suggested by a good acupuncturist friend of mine, it is excellent for detoxing the body, is highly natural and should be readily available in health food stores. you take like 5 pills at a time 3 times a day. its really good at working out the toxins specifically, that along with a juicer diet, would be quite adequete. Sun chlorella is also the brand name.

Here's an article from WebMD. Talks about three methods, a chemical detoxification done by a doctor, a colonic (and did anyone see that Jackass where "santa" got a colonic?), and fasting, which is what you're most interested in.

Funnily enough I do find giving blood invigorating, I feel all tingly and much lighter after giving blood.

Thanks for the info!

Vi_edit~ I am not doing this to pass a drug test. I think people often take something that masks the drug instead of fasting for a few days...I could be wrong though.

Detoxification is one thing, but remaining detoxified is something entirely different, no?

Water and juice are nice, but how long can you go without bulk?

Eat well, exercise, die anyway. ;)
