Yes, a chiped B5 S4 will make chump change of an M3...but they really are very different cars.

So anyway, if you want more information on the S4 you should head over the audiworld forums, where no doubt all of your questions will be answered...

as much as i like Audis (my father has an 98 C5 A6 2.8 30v that i drive regularly), it is plagued with problems that can be expensive to fix. They are very safe cars imo, solid riding and handle great. I do a lot of the work on my dads A6, but there are some things I just cannot do (like timing belt, because of the cost of specialized tools).

I would pick a new A6 over a new 5 series, but this is based on the fact that the new 5 series did not rate very well in recent european crash test, otherwise I feel that the new 5 series would have less probelms than the new A6.

The B6 A4 is getting a face lift, I haven't seen the facelift for the S4 yet. I have driven and sat in the back seat of a B6 A4, and it is quite smaller compared to the A6. I do like the A4 avants, they are sweet if your into wagons/avants.

If i were to get a car soon but couldn't quite afford an A6 or 5 series, then I would be looking at a new Subaru Legacy GT limited sedan. A solid car imo.

ah, i see. nice car, but $45K+ USD for one.

but V8 and quattro is nice...

I drive an old '88 5000 turbo quattro. It's pretty nice in the snow.. not really the same car though. 5000/200 is the A6's grandpa.

We need something good in the snow.

Anything with front wheel drive is good in the snow. Best for the snow actually, unless you need to go up hills often...then AWD makes some sense.

AWD is crap though. jsut get front wheel drive. This coming from someone who grew up in the BUffalo area and went to school in an ever worse area (Potsdam, NY)

With a lower HP/torque engine, I'd have to agree with you. However, I have a family member with a 24V/3.0L/V6 Ford Taurus (200HP, 195 ft-lb) and it has horrible issues with torque steer when jumping off the line. It also has issues with wet or icy roads when on an incline. Both of my AWD vehicles do not suffer from those issues.

as much as i like Audis (my father has an 98 C5 A6 2.8 30v that i drive regularly), it is plagued with problems that can be expensive to fix.

'98 1/2 C5 A6 2.8L 30v AWD (all prices include labour):
Transmission Replacement: $7500 (covered by Audi after serious complaining)
Camshaft Seals, Water pump, Driver's Airbag Assembly: ~$2400
Power Steering Gear: $1446
Cam Variable Position Sensor: $444
Headlight Switch: $332
Battery Replacement: $110
Oil Pan Leak: $6 for liquid gasket

Items that still need fixing:
Air Conditioning Pump, Faulty Bearing: $350 + Labour
Cam Variable Position Gear: $1500 + Labour
Cassette Deck Head Backwards: don't care
Car Alarm occassionally triggered when opening moon roof: don't care, occurs < once/yr
Car Alarm triggered from 802.11b WiFi transmitter: moved to 802.11a 5Ghz band

The only things which really peeved me were the transmission (which died just 200 miles after my warrenty expired and took 2.5 weeks to diagnose correctly) and the airbag (which caused a computer fault at 25K miles, only to diagnosed as "okay", but to need replacing when it tripped the computer 35K miles later, after warrenty expired).

I'd buy another Audi if I received a free (or extremely discounted) 7yr/70K-mi powertrain warrenty, but not without one. Especially since the Euro is pounding the Dollar the way it is.

wow. instead of proofreading my gf's essay thats due in half an hour, i read this thread.

I really gotta add this thread to the list.

I gotta admit though, I was kind of hoping he'd come in and post some pictures to just PWN!!! everyone. Like that other time where the guy with a firebird (or another newish muscle car, I forgot) on another forum went and posted a picture of a HUGE pile of cash.

Just wanted to mention,

I had a 2000 Audi S4 and had a LOT of trouble with it. It was leased but spent so much time in the shop that they actually refunded us X months payment. I blew out one turbo, blew out the other, blew some valves, etc. etc. Aside from the seemingly constant breakdowns, the car was awesome and a pleasure to drive. You definitely get a lot of looks while driving it. She sure is fast too.

He said he's not rich, nor is his family. His information isn't consistant across all the threads he's posted in.
Pictures are worth a thousand words, but I could go take a picture with my uncles m3 and claim it as mine.
The TSX is with him in PA, and the S4 is back in colorado(because its his fathers or whatevey family member's goods he claims as his).

I can believe that the TSX is his. Paying cash for it? Possibly, but not with out the assistance of a family business or/or gifts etc.
I'd really like to know how a 19yr old college kid generates enough money to live and keep 2 brand new cars on the road.

Same way he can afford a $40,000 (just tuition) a year university. Same way he'll make more before 30 than you will your entire life...Stop the hate.

If this is how you think families treat each other I feel sorry for you too. I would die for anyone of my kids giving him a stupid car is nothing with his father means.

With a mouth like that I sense a lot of anger. Did your daddy not love you? XXY? What?

WTF? How come everyone is jumping on this kid when brigden can't be much older and is looking to buy a 40k car? At least daniel1113 is defending himself and offering explanations, rather than "I want a car, money is no object", which is far worse as far as flaunting his supposed status. I may have it in for brigden, but you guys are going crazy over something insignificant...

i dont understand you folks. i was given an old ford escort when i was 16. i worked when i was 16 (doing websites mind you) until i was 20 and got a job after getting certifications. i had themoney from doing web sites to pay for the $10000 courses and still be okay, and after working for awhile i went out and bought a boxster S, i put 10 down and financed the rest, i later sold that and bought an audi a4 in cash which i drive now. i'm now ready to buy a house. i just turned 22 a couple months ago.

get a grip and stop trying to pry into this kids life over a couple things taken out of context or a typo. it's not like he comes in bragging. think i am too? eat me. i was fortunate to be able to live at home and save.

PS: audi S4 is nice, it WILL need winter tires. also note 2000 was the first year for the B5 S4, in which it had turbo problems (they'd blow). 2001+ worked that problem but the 2.7t still managed to have problems. especially for people chipping, gotta be prepared to put the money down if you blow your turbos.

PPS: chipped audi s4 will beat an m3 i believe (looking at 320HP+higher TQ), not to mention its quattro.

PPPS: RS4 is insane, RS6 is more insane. :) EOF

Haha. You are pathetic. I hope that by Steve you mean my father, in which case I'm sure he'd be more than glad to settle this. However, that's assuming he's willing to take time out of his busy day to respond to such a worthless email that you never really sent, anyway. 'Tis a shame.

I don't believe I threatened you. I told you that you were a liar and then I e-mailed your dad.

Mill, are you still in Kindergarten? How fvckin' retarded are you? If he lies, why the fvck do you care?

About as fvcking retarded as you backing an obvious liar? Pray tell why you think I did it for kicks. He dared me; had he not I'd never of considered it. Perhaps you should re-read the thread. BTW, it wasn't true, so go fvck yourself. Ok? I don't like liars. Why do you have a problem with that? Are you a liar yourself? If not, you've nothing to worry about. People who LIE on the INTERNET about material possessions are worthless scumbags that deserve to be exposed. After daring me to e-mail his dad and him putting on a false show of bravery I figured I'd take him up on it. Now, I told you why *I* care(I hate liars), so please tell me why you care.

hahaha hilarious thread....

heres my assesment:

daddys old 2k1 s4, daddys new 2k4 s4

200x jetta = kids car

tsx = graduation gift.

I'm 20 and i currently drive a 96 a4 that i paid myself... there is NO WAY a 19 year full time student can afford payments or even insurance on TWO brand new big ticket imports. He'd be paying about 4K a year for insurance alone.

I'm currently paying my housing and im left with about 150 bucks from my well paid research job. I really dont see how a 19 year old kid could accumulate 40K worth of equity, it just doesnt add up.

$4k a year is lowballing it.

I pay.. let's see.. $2100 a year for liability only on a car worth... 1/10 or so the s4
