Isn't he a popular lounge singer from the early 80s and late 70s?

What are you people, like 13 years old?

you've been on this forum for many years and are an active member - did you really need to ask that? i think the answer is obvious

I think it was a rhetorical question. 😉

One of my favorites, American Girl.

Also, speaking of the Wilburies, I hope all you young-uns have heard of ELO(Electric Light Orchestra), Jeff Lynne's original group. ELO had a sound that I bet a lot of you would like.

Three good songs but IMO you can't forget about Refugee, Jammin' Me, Don't Come Around Here No More, Don't Do Me Like That, Even the Losers...

Aww hell, just get a Tom Petty Anthology or something...he has made some fantastic music as a solo artist, with the Heartbreakers and as a Wilbury.

Heh, I wish I there was a station on iTunes or MSN radio where I could select the songs I want to hear. My music collection is at home and I'm at work. 🙁

He definitely put out what is unquestionably one of the best Greatest Hits collections ever. I've got the box set, too, but that Greatest Hits is simply awesome.

He's the nightwatchman
He makes the rounds
He's the nightwatchman
He gotta keep his nose to the ground

Not necessarily Jeff's original group, but certainly the most familiar. Don't forget the Idle Race, and the Move. The Move eventually morphed into ELO around the time Roy Wood branched off to form Wizzard.

He should be popular with the Anti-RIAA and wanna-be pirate crowd.

From his wikipedia entry

Though he was at a peak of popularity, Petty ran into record company trouble again when he and the Heartbreakers prepared to release Hard Promises (1981), the follow-up to Damn the Torpedoes. MCA wanted to release the record at the list price of $9.98, which was a high price at the time. Petty refused to comply to their wishes, threatening to withhold the album from the label and organizing a fan protest that forced the company to release the record at 8.98.

Their first album was magic. On a slightly unrelated note, Orbison was an amazing singer. he had such a great voice. It's a shame he's dead.
