Does anyone have a VPN that I can use for ~100mb or so?

I'm in China on a school trip and one of my friends needs his iPhone unlocked, and during the process you have to download an app from the jailbroken app store which China's firewall blocks. I have a VPN for my computer from my school but it is a software client that I have no way of using on a cell phone and I've run out of ideas at this point.

Doing something illegal in other countries is usually a bad idea.

What? Having no idea what you are talking about is a bad idea. VPNs are the norm in China, businesses and schools use them to protect the data between here and the rest of the world every day, and I rarely have the one on my laptop off while I'm here.

No one is quite sure why the apt repository has been blocked (if it has), but it's DNS doesn't resolve properly. I could fix that with mobileterminal on the phones... but I can't download that either 😛

That may be so, that doesn't make it a wise move for a student on a trip.

Riiiight, hence why our stateside school gave us the software before we left, because they wanted us all to be arrested.

Your school gave you software to circumvent China's firewall? I wonder if China's Internet laws don't apply to foreign citizens? I find it hard to believe that your school would actually condone breaking a foreign country's law.

If you can find info on a single arrest where a foreigner using a VPN was the main cause, I would be absolutely shocked, it just doesn't happen.

Didn't want to pay when all I need is a a few hours 😛

You are using a VPN to do something.....illegal.

The VPN might not be illegal but jailbreaking an iPhone is certainly illegal.

The point is, don't tempt fate, especially in North Korea, China, or Iran because people have been arrested for a lot less in other countries.

That's cheap when you figure some people get paid thousands of dollars an hour. 😉

I'm pretty sure you're going to have a hard time finding someone that will let you borrow a VPN account jacking in from CN! 😀

Are you actually being serious? Rofl. You have literally no idea what the fuck you are talking about. They sell them jailbroken and unlocked on the sides of the streets here, if you want to pay $600+ for one. I already tried to get them to unlock ours, but my Chinese isn't good enough to get the point across.

I figured, but I've paid it forward a few times on the forums, and a few have done the same for me. Thought I'd check before I wasted drinking money 😛

Sure why not. I will even give him an admin account on the device so he can delete his account when done. China is a safe place right? 😀

Lol. What's the worst I could do with a non admin account and <100mb. Unleash a virus on to the world that destroys everything? If I could do that, I wouldn't need to borrow someone's VPN account to unlock a f*cking iPhone.

lol when did it become illegal to jailbreak an iPhone. You know you aren't really breaking it out of a prison, right?

This thread is going places. Got my popcorn out. Generally ignoring laws of a foreign country you are in is a pretty bad idea. As in really bad.

One of my friends was studying abroad at Peking university and did a search for Tienanmen square and it of course 404'ed. He was totally freaked out because he got an email from the school's IT dept on proper internet searching etiquette for foreign students like 5 minutes after he did it.

Just adding my 5 cents
