Does anyone else try to scheme an excuse to go home when they get to work?

It seems like I spend the first hour of my day thinking about it, then I say "rats, I got nothin'", then actually start working.

*sigh*

When I was in sales I would scheme ways to go home during the day so I could poop at home.

Nope. if i want to go home i just tell my boss and 90% of the time i can just go home. Though if im at work i stay till lunch and take half a day over just leaving right away. No excuses needed. Granted i only do it when we are slow and have nothing to do (for the most part). If we are busy i generally dont mind being at work. Only time i get "denied" is if im the only one on a project.

My problem is I do this every day :D

I really need a new career. Problem is I'm kind of stuck here. I'm at the top of the seniority list, I'm being paid well, and I've been here forever. The problem is my skill set is not in much demand, there aren't many jobs in my area as it is, I'm over 40, and I don't have a 4 year degree.

above + soul being sucked from my body = I'm screwed

I try to figure ways to not even go in at all.
I used to love my job, then I got the douchebag manager from hell (6 hour long staff meetings, 10 hour long technical meetings, treats us like 5 year olds)

Got a family of five to feed, and I am in a specialized field (telecommunications). Seems pretty scary to jump ship right now.

Freakin' managers...

Then you realize.. no matter how great of an excuse is, it reflects poorly on you as a professional.

Nope. I spent 9 years in the Navy. The idea of fucking off as work or ditching work while millions are unemployed is disgusting to me.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Don't want to blemish that "permanent record".

I remember in grade school when you screwed up, they would always say that. "THIS IS GOING ON YOUR PERMANENT RECORD!"

I wonder if being tardy in the 3rd grade is what's keeping me from finding a job I enjoy. Where do they keep these permanent records anyway? The filing cabinet must be HUGE!

Heck no. I can't ATOT at home. You guys are my dirty little secret.

But I did leave at 9:30 and ride the bike for an hour. Good to be the boss.

Find a job you love, or find a career you love. I know a lot of people taking night classes to help them get where they want to go. I feel like I wasted too much time in retail before I figured out how important having a job you love really is.

Meh I don't mind being at work really. I don't "love" what I do really but I work with great people and a lot of them are personal friends as well so coming in to the studio isn't dreaded. If I don't feel like working for a bit I wander over to someones cube and we talk about games for an hour, or go play Xbox for a bit.

LOL- that's like saying "If you don't have enough money, just get rich! Problem solved!"

My direct supervisor is pretty cool, so as long as I got the leave bank, he's pretty good about letting me go whenever I feel like it.

Yeah it always amazes me how so many people think life is simple and easy. I suspect they lead very privileged lives and rarely deal with any kind of hardship.
Its taken me many years to figure out I dont like electronics as a career and now I have to go back to school so I can start all over again. Thats a process and it takes time.
That nonsense of "do what you love" needs to go away. You wont know what you really love until you try making a career out of it.
I loved soldering in high school electronics, thats not the same thing as the work force at all.
