Why the fxck can't people just try and be courteous to others so that everyone gets to their destination just fine?'

Love people... love.

in NYC, it's a game.

i'm from assachusets and drive accordingly. they have they have toi yeild to ME. if they can't adjust speed accordinly thats there problem. when i get on an on ramp i slow down for a sec, look for an open space ad then either brake or accelerate to slide right in without disrupting traffic. if other people can't figure out how to do this they can eat jersey barrier

as long as they signal and follow the merging every other car rule, it's ok. of course LA drivers don't know how to use signals, so i say don't let them in. if they hit you, just hope they have insurance or you have uninsured driver coverage.

you might be right, you might be wrong, but if you can avoid an accident and you don't, you're a moron.

I will do my best to keep those guys behind me, I have even move over a bit to the shoulder so they couldn't drive past.

Oh, if i'm in a traffic jam, I always try to get in the outside or inside lane so i can block idiots that try to pass everyone on the shoulders.

As far as the original post. Why the fvck is it so hard for you to slow down or speed up to let someone on? It's asshats like you that contribute to the wrecks. Nothing pisses me off more, than when i'm merging and I speed up to get on, and the dipsh!t in the right lane speeds up to make sure i don't get ahead of him.

life is too short for that crap. just give it a little gas and get in front of them, then slow back down. and if it really pisses you off, then here's a little tip: don't drive in the slow lane. the slow of traffic is far smoother and safer in the fastest lanes anyway.

Are you saying if you're in the right lane and the left lane is clear, you won't move over to allow them to merge?

If so, you're a freakin' asshat.

You're one of those people going The Distance:

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time
The green light flashes, the flags go up
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns
Their prowress is potent and secretly stern
As they speed throught the finish, the flags go down
The fans get up and they get out of town
The arena is empty except for one man,
Still driving and striving as fast as he can
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup
But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns

And thinking of someone for whom he still burns...

He's going the distance
He's going for speed
She's all alone
In her time of need
Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
He's going the distance

No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine,
He's haunted by something he cannot define
Bowl-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse,
Assail him, impail him with monster-truck force
In his mind, he's still driving, still making the grade
She's hoping in time that her memories will fade
'Cause he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup
But he's striving and driving and hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns

'Cause he's going the distance
He's going for speed
She's all alone
In her time of need
Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse
He's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
He's going the distance
He's going for speed
He's going the distance...

I let people in. Sometimes that means slowing down a little. Sometimes that means speeding up a little. Sometimes that means changing lanes.
I get pissed when people don't let me in.
Having the law on your side is little comfort when somebody plows into your precious car because you were too obstinate and self-important to let them get on the road.

I always let people merge. I'll slow down or speed up or even move for them. Why? Because I expect the same in return, and thus traffic flows smoother, there are less wrecks, and people drive less pissed off. Now as for people who drag ass in the left lane... I'd waste my life just to kill one of those suckers.

I also hate people who stop at the beginning of the merge lane if they can't get in, oblivious to the fact that they have a hundred yards of their own lane in which to match speed with the traffic. There is never ever a need to stop in a merging lane unless it's gridlock.

Personally I don't always signal. There are those people who see you signalling and then speed up so you can't get in.

Hate it more when people slow down from 65 to 50 to let me merge meanwhile I'm waiting for them to speed up and get the hell out of the way so I can just merge behind them..

I've occassionally gotten the oblivious idiot to try to MERGE with my car... in fact, my brother was MERGED into from a 500ft+ on-ramp on the GSParkway. Luckily the woman driving the SUV only smacked the crap out of my brother's mirror and quickly jerked back before doing serious damage to our fenders.

She was crawling along and trying to merge onto 65MPH zone...

I've also had people speed up to try to squeeze me out of a merge... WTF?? Thankfully, I have enough common sense to avoid an accident. WTF are you trying to squeeze me out if I'm not only already going speed limit and still accelerating in front and you're friggin booking it on the right lane? I just don't understand.

I can't stand the people who don't merge when they should. On my drive home from work, 3 lanes becomes 2. There is plenty of advance warning, but people routinely fly up the lane that ends so they can get to the front of the line and butt in, and it creates a huge bottleneck of a mess.

meh, I move when somebody is sailing down the on-ramp and it looks like we might be trying to occupy the same piece of real estate (intentionally or not) in the next few seconds. A quick lane change or some pressure on the accelerator to get clear of someone who I never care to see again is nothing in the overall scheme of things. Me being attentive and proactive on the road = less chance of me tangling with some incompetent douchebag and having to waste days potentially dealing with cops, medical care, tow trucks, repair quotes, body shops, loaner cars, insurance companies, and lawyers.

Now I never do that, that is dirty. I simply drive at a constant speed. I never try to 'screw' with someone.

In Arkansas you say?

It is too common. I can't drive to 30 miles without someone doing this . . .Sometimes twice a trip. . .

I'll be the guy that crashes into your piece, takes you out of the car, and beats the fvck out of you for not being considerate to other drivers. How hard would it be for you to speed up or slow down so someone can merge on? You're supposed to share the road; they have no where else to go but onto the highway.
The person on the ramp is legally required to yield to people on the freeway. Persons already on the freeway have the right of way. Whether he is being "nice" or not is beside the point, he has the right of way from a legal standpoint and if someone merges and hits him it is the merging person's fault. Persons already on the freeway have no legal obligation to accomodate people who never learned how to guage speed and distance.

If the left lane is clear there is absolutly no reason why they person couldnt move over.
