Does anyone else really like the song Mr. Brightside by The Killers?

it's catchy.

The video is lame, though. Is that Eric Roberts in it?

I think it's their best song off the album. "Somebody Told Me" has a great melody but horrendous lyrics :D

The video is like a car wreck, don't want to watch but can't help yourself.

I'm undecided.

:music:
Somebody told me
You've got a boyfriend
That looks like a girlfriend
I had in February of last year
:music:

I thought it was a brilliant send up of a jealous ex and laughed my ass off the first few times I heard it. Plus, how many people can fit "February" into their lyrics and keep a great rhythm?

edit: (fixed slight lyric error after listening again)

The song rocks, but there are better tracks on the album... Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine and On Top are examples.

Is it supposed to be about something more specific than some guy either being cheated on - or at least imagining he is being cheated on?

One might think that it is "all in [his] head" as an ironic contrast to the title and upbeat rhythm. There's definitely an element of playfulness to the album, but the playfulness is all in the cognitive processing - the actual vocal and instrumental emotion feels heartfelt. I noted one instance in "Somebody told me" above, and the obvious element in this song is:

Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his [dick]chest now

because of course, that's what you keep expecting to hear. It's so blatant that you have to repeatedly listen to the song before it will even flow smoothly in your head (or that has been my experience).
