Does anybody believe that "Blade Runner - The Final Cut" will actually be the Final Cut?

I've never seen it either. I am going to rent the HD DVD on Netflix but there are 2 separate discs. The Final Cut and The Directors Cut. I'm not going to sit through both of them. Which one should I rent?

Probably the final cut, I think it's been re-mastered and a few added scenes as well.
awesome film, enjoy! ( I'm jealous, wish I could erase it from memory and re-watch it!).

Overall, I love the movie up until the last minute. I have seen two endings so far (not sure if there are more): one is too campy, looks "manufactured", which it supposedly is, and the other makes no sense, leaves it way too open.

And how many cuts do you need...

You'd have a tough time convincing me that it's any different/better than the Director's Cut...which I already own.

it is. just the picture quality is better i'm sure. i also own the directors cut and it was a sh*t release. they reshot stuff as well.

course i'm not motivated enough to bother buying it, i don't like double dip.
i'll rent it if it ever makes it onto netflix😛

I'll be double dipping on Tuesday...it's a great movie, I don't mind shelling out again. Almost had a chance to catch it at the Cinerama when I was doing the Seattle show.

It seems stupid to me to have a bunch of different versions of the same film. Don't get me wrong I liked the film and own it, but I'll be passing up buying more versions. If the studios can get people to buy more power to them. I'm sure there will be plenty of people who buy the Star Wars saga super dooper director's cuts in High Definition when they come out. Han shot first by the way.

I don't understand all the animosity over this either. The reason there was a Director's Cut to begin with was because in 1990 a workprint version was screened by mistake instead of the theatrical version which is basically a different movie all together. This "workprint" was supposed to be the theatrical version, but due to poor screenings, the studio decided to add a "happy ending" and add voice over narration, both over Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford's objections. The Final cut is essentially the Directors Cut but a much better transfer (the directors cut dvd looks like they used a VHS source for the transfer) and a few scenes tweaked here and there (wires digitally removed from the spinners, original actors filmed digitally to replace obvious stunt doubles, etc..).

I have the HD-DVD 5 disc set (the non-briefcase one) and it's amazing. It's a visual masterpiece, it almost seems like it could be released now it's so good. I recommend this for anyone interested in Sci-Fi or just cinema in general.

The tears in the rain speech is still one of the greatest things I have ever seen in cinema.

Agreed.
Too bad Rutger's career was lost...like tears in the rain.

As long as it's better than that crappy Pink Floyd album of the same name I'll be happy...that was abysmal. 😀

also, I've heard that the Blu Ray release has had issues with rough edges on the discs, causing a loud humming noise...can anyone confirm this and if so, if it's isolated to the normal version or limited collectors edition, and if the HD DVD release has similar issues?

I can't wait for someone to make a movie called "Circumcision". Soon after the DVD comes out and it's called "Circumcision: Director's Cut"
i hope it's a paramount release... that way we can keep our hopes up for the "don't cut off my little brother's fireman" edition

I saw an interview with Rutger a couple month's back. He basically says that he would not have even pursued a career in acting in the US at all, if it had not been for Blade Runner. He said it was one of the best experiences of his life of something along those lines.

This is one of the greatest SciFi movies of all time, IMHO. Can'w wait to get see the Final Cut.

I think one of the things that has made Blade Runner age so well is the fact that
within probably 50 years the technology to "make" designer people will exist.
How will the moral questions raised by BR be dealt with??....questions.....

I just saw the directors cut in the theatre last month. I thought it was good it was nice to see it on the big screen again, still one of my all time favorites.

I finally watched this film for the first time last year on HDNET. I thought it was great except for the score. How awful. There nothing that dates a film more than using modern musical instruments, technology and techniques. That film could have been so much better if a traditional score with an orchestra was used.
