Most Americans haven't a clue(as many prove here) as to why some hate them, as I haven't a clue why Americans seem to hate any kind of criticism. Answers like "jealousy" are weak attempts at dismissal, but fail to come to any understanding of the subject. Frankly, I think they rather enjoy being hated, it seems to satisfy their long held belief that they and they alone keep the world from chaos.

The problem with humor is not how spell it but to have some sense of it. I myself am howling over my reaction to the fact that that 'idiot' shinerburke actually made a rather intelligent post earlier in this thread. What? Huh? How'd that happen. I guess it's not just what you know but how you know it. :D

That's such a HUGE generalization. i was 5 when i came to the US. about 10 yrs ago, i went back to Seoul, Korea and lived there for 5 yrs, don't talk about me as if i know nothing about what happens overseas.

truth is, most europeans haven't a CLUE why americans are so fanatical about america. well guess what, people like me are fanatical about america because we've LIVED in other countries and KNOWS that no where else would we be given the type of opportunities we are here.

I would say i represent a relatively large %age of americans too, many many americans are within 2 generations of their country of origin. They know either first hand or from the stories of their parents the kind of CR4P people put up with in other countries. Is it any wonder that these people are CRAZY about America.

or that we give a lot of money to other countries, but lands in the wrong hands... People with power have a responsibility to help others, regardless. The "it's not my problem" line only makes the world a worse place to live.

I've decided that I'm ashamed to belong to the human species
I bet you are not half as ashamed as we are that you belong to the human species. Actually you might be in luck, after going over some of your posts the juries out on whether you are part of the Human Race or just a sub species that mimics intelligence. Your last post seems to support the latter.

Does America wonder WHY?
Feel the hate. It seems to center mostly around our interventionalist foreign policy, eager consumption of resources and envy of our freedoms, depending on the hater of course, whether it be terrorists, activists or the French.

I do agree it's hard for most Americans to take national criticism. For some reason we always take it far too personally.

I believe our foreign policy must change. Sept. 11th didn't happen because we produce too much waste or have too many liberties.

True, it is a broad generalization. Those, such as yourself, have good reason to be "fanatical", because you know things. Unfortunetly it seems that those who have a family history of being Americans don't have that same knowledge. Their reason for fanaticism lies with military/economic might, something which many(especially Europe) have not too fond memories of(not so much the might as the fanaticism of the might).

Basically put, most immigrants to the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia(and others) think very highly of their new found homeland(I could have put Newfoundland hehe)for very good reason, but longtime residences can not truly appreciate those reasons so they find other reasons.

This applies to any nation, even during the height of the British Empire many people throughout the world hated them, yet the few immigrants probably found Britain to be a great place to live. That doesn't mean that the colonized were jealous of Britain or that Britain, as a place, sucked, but they were upset at British interference in their aspirations to self-determination. Whether British Empirical rule "improved" their lives, it often did, was immaterial, no one likes to be rendered moot by a far off unseen power. Colonial Americans are an example of this feeling/state of mind.

If you think America is #1 at everything you are an ignorent idiot. If you think everyone hates us because we are #1 and the best, you are an even dumber ignorent idiot.

America does a lot of things to just get things it needs (like oil), but we claim to be a really fair country

I dont want to get into this right now... Anyway, also dont think that we "have it better off than anyone else", there are other countries (Japan, MANY European countries, and even Canada) who have a much better living standard, and people in general are more healthy, educated, and better off... Your avarage American has a dog, a small house and a car and works his ass off all day (all his life), and believes that he lives in the best country in the world. Also, we have just too much diversity. Yes, there are doctors and businessman who earn crazy salaries, but there are also way too many people who work for $6/hour all their life.

I think its pointless to start sying things like "We are the best, #1, they all hate us because we are better" without being outside of your own country. I am an American, but i've also traveled the globe and lived in too many countries, and it really opened my eyes... Its amazing really how some nations live, and think. Not everything is about money or being #1 on some stupid chart... But we are still the most advanced country, and i love it here really. :D

Not saying I completely disagree with everything in your post but....

You are calling people "ignorent" yet can't spell the word...

And claim we have "too much diversity"? eh, ok...
