does AMD's 3yr warranty cover cracked CPU's?

I recently cracked my duron 900 (amd's POS cpus are way too fragile).

has anyone successfully returned their cracked cpu for a replacement through amd's 3 yr warranty?

so AMD is that bad? they make cpus that can be destroyed with a slight push on the heatsink and then they claim no responsibility when it happens.. what a pos company.

The cores crack not because they're weak, because of improper installation, which is why warranty doesnt cover it.

I have taken my heatsink (fop-32) on & off a dozen or more times and never had a problem,If you know what you're doing then you should not crack a core.

On the bright side,be glad you only ruined a Duron and not a brand new 1.4ghz.

believe me, I took every cautious step I could. Ive installed dozens of athlons without cracking one until today.

Maybe you not using an AMD approved heatsink? If you do use a recommended heatsink, you clearly followed AMD's instructions, and it still cracked, then I guess they'd have to give you a replacement.

i used an Alpha PAL35, and the clip is new so it was a very tight fit

Did you try to replace the fan while the heatsink was still attached to the cpu?

Because if you did that,just getting the heatsink a bit sideways is enough to chip a corner &amp; kill a cpu.Never mess with your heatsink when it's still on the cpu.

actually, its impossible to install the heatsink w/ the fan attached, you have to install the heatsink first then the fan...

Well i do the impossible all the time,i remove the heatsink from my motherboard and put the heatsink on my desk &amp; then i can put any fan i want on there.

All the heatsinks i installed on a socket A board have their fan attached to the heatsink prior to installation.

Why would you need to remove the fan from the heatsink before you install it?

That's why the alpha is not aproved for an AMD socket A .

Use an aproved heatsink next time &amp; you will not have problems with chipped cores &amp; such.

ahwel, I emailed AMD's customer rep. if they wont replace it i'll just buy a duron 700 for a measily $25

Unless you want an other cracked core i suggest that when you go buy your new Duron that you also pick up an Amd aproved heatsink for it.
