I'm not going to waste my time with this. I could be posting all weekend and still not come to an agreement.

Very true. There are still uneducated people in the world.

go figure.

alright, you're on. show me 2+2=7

Very well, using only algebra 😛

I multiply both sides by 0, which is perfectly acceptable as long as it it done to both sides of the equation.

0*(2+2)=(7)*0
distributed
(2*0) + (2*0) = (7*0)
0+0=0
0=0

0=0, therefore the equation is balanced, and thus 2+2=7

Oh, and yes .999.... = 1

I'm not going to read all the posts, but yes, 2.99999~9 = 3

Let's say x = 2.9999999~9
then 10x = 29.9999999~9

subtract the first line from the second:

10x - x = 29.99999~9 - 2.99999~9

so

9x = 27

and

x = 3

Oh, here's my proof that 2 = 1

Lets say that a = b
add 'a' to both sides
2a = a + b
subtract '2b' from both sides
2a - 2b = a - b
factor out the 2
2(a-b) = (a-b)
divide both sides by (a-b) and we get
2=1

Why does this work? Answer below...

I divided by (a-b), and (a-b) is zero. Dividing by zero is fun, but not math legal.

sure dividing by zero is math legal. Its just undefined.

Yeah, because if it was, 2=1=0.9999.... 🙂

Hmm, I wonder if this thread will be as long as the original one a while back.

We'll see. Maybe if it gets infinitely long, we'd find out the answer.

Can't believe people are still arguing this. You really are dumb. Just stop posting. Anyone with half a brain would understand the logic that .9999... = 1.

Your reply seems a bit dramatic and angry for a thread about math.

.9999... = 1

I now agree.

All the little teenage kiddies that got worked up about this can now sleep peacefully.
