ON SALE: Now
BASE PRICE: $19,995
POWERTRAIN: 2.4-liter, 215-hp, 245-lb-ft turbocharged I4; fwd, five-speed manual
CURB WEIGHT: 2900 pounds
0-60 MPH: 5.9 seconds (mfr.)

Isn't that a lot of power to only throw at the front wheels? I would imagine a lot of torque steer.

I saw one in orlando in January (right when they came out). It looks rather nice in person. I'd love to drive, maybe even own one. It's very tempting to me, although it's just not in my future. But I'm very happy they've released it after 7yrs of enthusiasts requests.

And it's butt-ugly!

No need for the redundancy.

No, it's like they took a Neon and decided to molest it with the ugly stick. It's far worse than a Neon.

My Neon's self-image just took a giant leap. Thanks a lot.

Anything I can do to help. ;)

Agreed. That thing's had the Big Stick of Ugly shoved so far up its butt, it can probably taste it. :Q

"plop on a wing, cut a nostril in the hood" ... yeah, that does so much for the aesthetics.

I reiterate - "up the butt." :disgust:

Hate on it all you want, Dodge just upped the ante to anyone selling a performance car for under 20k. Show me another new car stock that'll put 240HP to the wheels for under even 25K :D

Sure, they upped the bar, but power isn't everything. If it were, people wouldn't drive V-6 Mustangs.

I admit that I can't. But I would still never buy one. For a new car, I'd be shopping for the entire package, and the SRT-4 doesn't have anything for me besides the speed. Nothing. If I wanted something JUST for speed (which is all the Neon does well as far as I'm concerned), I'd buy a used RWD something-or-other and tune it. Like a 240sx, Camaro, or Mustang.

They really should have just come out with a mini Viper coupe like they planned for a while back....called the Venom. Not this abomination front wheel drive.

Word!

And I'll put myself out there and say that anyone who buys a FWD car for the performance is an idiot who doesn't understand that horsepower is not everything, and that horsepower can be easily added to a car.

In the pocket rocket segment - power is a lot of the package. A V6 Mustang isn't remotely comparible to any of the sub 20k sports cars.

And anyone with a RWD car that goes up against a FWD car and gets owned is an idiot - I do it to them all the time

OK, one one hand we have you - and on the other hand we have the large, and growing, market for cheap FWD performance cars, hmm, I wonder why this car is important? :p

EDIT - sorry for the triple posts in a row

Those things are made here in my town - I've seen a few already, all driven by punk kids.
All wanting to race.
It may be faster than my WRX (for now) - but it's still a fwd neon.

well, WRX can be had gor under 25K

granted, it is just measly 227 hp, but, - it is a much much better car all around, with AWD, too

so, no, - Neon still blows

And cheaper! That's all that really matters - faster and cheaper :D I admit I like a nice interior, but I can forfeit that for 20k and 260+ HP

so, no, - Neon still blows
maybe you hit "post" too early, I'll finish that up for ya

so, no, - Neon still blows WRX's away for much less money. :D

Hehe. I'd take an WRX over an SRT-4 for sure. I like the whole package...not a rental car on steroids.

As long as it's just a race up to 60ish MPH, our WRXes will still win =).

For $20k, the straight line performance can't be beat. The people who buy this car aren't the people who care what there car looks like, its the people who want max performance for the $$. ie the civic crowd. It's great competition for them. I'm glad to see dodge targetting that market, no other car really has.

I for one like it. Sure it's no looker, but package that much power in a small car and it's got to be fun to drive. The handling is probably sweet too. One thing about those big american rwd cars, they may have power, but they can't corner worth spit.
