Trying to decide if I should get rid of my 3000GT and get a Lightning or not... or maybe wait for one of these. ;)

You could buy 2 Lightnings for the price of a SRT-10.

I'll admit it's a nice truck but it's in a totally different class than Lightning, like comparing a '03 Mustang Cobra to a Z06 - a Z06 is still faster but it costs almost twice as much and not by that much. I'd still take a L anyday over a SRT-10 given the choice. It's almost too easy getting a L into the 12's and to a certain extent, 11's with little money.

I havn't bothered to see what the price for the Ram was... but if that's the case then I think I'll probably get the Lightning. :)
There's a nice silver '01 at a dealership near here... $27K.
If only I thought a dealer would payoff my car on the trade-in I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

I really don't like it. At all. Looks like something a rapper would drive around. Give me a Lightning AND a WRX over it any day :)

Now that's a good idea, as long as the WRX has the STi lights and not those bug eyes. :)
I've considered a WRX in the past too... as well as a Honda CBR600 F4i. If I get the bike I'm keeping my 3000GT though.

Not to scare ya or anything but there are almost no virgin L's anymore anywhere, meaning it's probably been run hard for at least some part of it's life. MSRP on 02s and 03s I think are like $30 so you could get a new one for a couple K more. Just make sure it still has the warranty in effect - the previous owners could have gotten red flagged by modding it.

vi - not a bad little combo - with minor mods both of those cars could beat a SRT-10 :D

you do realize that all you do is refinance the trade, right?

You mean add what I still owe to the new loan? That's what I'm trying to avoid... easy way to turn that 30K Lightning into a 50K Lightning. ;)
I know my sister always had her cars paid off when she bought a new one... dunno how she did it. One of them she owed something like 18K on.
I just don't know if a Lightning would make a good daily driver... sure it'd be fun but I'd have to raise my rates to pay for the gas... and tires. ;)

Exactly, especially for what you get, Even regular L's don't appeal to me any amount anymore, I like the Harley Davidson edition just cause 2 seater trucks are now useless as it is, ontop of being 2wd.

A 50K truck should be a "stock" Lightning killer. I can add <5K in mods to make my '02L a RT/10 stomper.

38k vs. 50k ;)

Too bad the RT/10 is all go and no show.

The point is, theres another truck out there with a big engine that can put the horses to the wheels.

The point is, the RT/10 is not a viable option to the average enthusiast. :)

LOL, I love it when people come out and say "I can add *insert dollar amount here* worth of mods and stomp *insert car/truck here*" It's pointless. That's like saying that a 350Z with some mods can kill a Corvette or a Miata with some mods can smoke a Boxster S.

The point is, this will be the fastest stock truck on the market. You pay for the performance, but that's the way things have always been (as with the Corvette and Boxster S).

It's pointless.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so there is no need to call anything "pointless".

For all we know, this RT/10 could be a paper release and end up like the SS Chevy Truck.

So, that's YOUR opinion. A 350Z still CAN NOT beat a Corvette stock, no matter which way you try to slice it.

It's NOT production, 500 units was 40 years ago, now it's image. I see L's daily.

It's coming off assembly lines ain't it? You can buy it from a Dodge dealer can't you? Again, fastest STOCK pickup truck from the factory...in this case, Dodge's PVO division.

and it unlike some Mopars never had to get bailed out cause of bankruptcy)

What are you, like 12 years old or something? :D

And I wasn't slamming the "mod" industry, I'm just comparing stock vehicles to stock vehicles.

RagingBITCH - In Nashville you can get an L for around 28k. It really all depends on where you live and your dealer.

If i remember correctly....doesnt this new Dodge only have a 0-60 in 5.0? and the L is 0-60 in 5.2? I wouldn't call that spanking. Especially considering you can just chip an L and use a K&N filter (all for under $500) and be pulling a 0-60 in 4.9-5.0. I'd definately take a L over a ::shiver:: Dodge anyday. :)

0-60 is 5 seconds for the SRT-10. IIRC, the 0-60 for a Lightning is ~ 5.7 secs.

0-to-60-mph acceleration time of 5.0 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12.9 seconds at 106 miles per hour. Its independent front suspension is the same as that in the 2002 Ram; performance-tuned springs and shocks and a rear sway bar (along with the aforementioned lower ride height) ramp up handling. According to Dodge, the truck pulls 0.92 g's on the skidpad and hits almost 70 mph through the slalom.

I agree with what others have said. Putting the viper engine in that truck made it way to expensive.

A good forumla for a L killer would be a lightened 1500 Dodge with the HEMI and maybe a supercharger to aadd some more horses. That would put the truck much closer to the L's price point.

Hell, the HEMI will bolt up to the bell housing of the 1500's trans withotu a problem ( assuming you did not get the V6 ) so I am sure there is someone out there who already has a crate motor and is working on putting it in.

I find it hard to believe that the HEMI will not end up in the 1500 within the next year. The HEMI plant has the capacity to make almost 600% more engines than the 2500/3500 can use. They will put it in the 1500. I would not be suprised if dodge put it in a dakota.

It would make much more sence than the V-10. The V-10 has a price of almost 9k. The HEMI probably around 5-6. ( just an educated guess )

Well, the 1500 WILL get the Hemi. That along with Chryslers new large RWD sedans. I also agree that Hemi would have been a better choice, but then again, I don't work at Chrysler and I have no say-so.

also, im pretty sure thats just a mesh to roughly filter the air (on the stang v6), so no birds or something like that fly through...

look at one up close. its solid plastic with a honeycomb pattern in it. has it on the side "intakes" too. Stangs are so cheap now, even the trademark running horse on the front is made out of plastic.

Stock is boring, anyone and their mother can buy it.

By that definition then the McLaren F1 is not production then now is it? How about Rolls's then too?

What are you, like 12 years old or something? :D
Guess you are not old enough to remember the bail out years so it's not as funny to you :p

Stock = anyone with a wallets game = BORING

Also, whats the big deal about adding a thing here or there, if it's so bad to bolt on a 4 hour Blower, whats with having to put a new Tranny put in a Ram every 35K miles, that takes atleast 6 hours to do :Q how does that taste :p I know you hate the tranny joke's, but I'm a huge FACT man, Magizene # HP doesn't do anything for me :p ;)
