Dodge Ram SRT-10 Information

I'm getting tired of people using "non functional hood scoops" :disgust:
Trying to decide if I should get rid of my 3000GT and get a Lightning or not... or maybe wait for one of these. 😉

My guess is they will be about as sparse as the Viper though... Prolly only see one once in a great while...

500 total units, you wont be seeing many, that was a production number back in the 60's, now it's just an image number 🙂

The scoop IS functional. The same engine is used in the Viper SRT-10 and it also has a hood scoop to force air into the engine.

Sporting a raised hood with non-functional scoop...

from the article.

a hood scoop is ALWAYS functional... getting cool air into the hot as a mother f'er engine bay ALWAYS helps the engine stay cooler... there is no such thing as a non functional hood scoop...

the only way a hood scoop could be non-functional would be if it wasnt a hood scoop, meaning it is just there for cosmetic reasons... this would mean that no air is actually let in through the hood scoop, because there is no hole there, just a lift in the hood with a fake scoop... and YES, people do this...

have you seen the hood scoop on the mustang v6? its non functional because its filled in.

see my edit 😉

also, im pretty sure thats just a mesh to roughly filter the air (on the stang v6), so no birds or something like that fly through...

There are plenty of non-functional hood scoops, the Viper GT2's hood scoop was non-functional (whereas the GTS was functional).

BTW, by non-functional, i would imagine they mean that it is not directly connected to the air intake.

well in that case, very few hood scoops would be considered functional... because most of the cars i have seen, the intake cone is faaar from the hoodscoop...

Sporting a raised hood with non-functional scoop, hard toneau cover, and a lowered body riding on 22-inch wheels, this new model is supplied with a 500 cubic inch V-10 directly from the 2003 Viper.
Non functional means that it is molded ontop of the hood but has no openings in it at all. Just molded black plastic. And since the article says it's Non-Functional then it's non-functional - for appearance only. I don't care where it's located, if it doesn't have any openings then it does nothing more than provide good looks. 😉

Look at the relation of the hood scoop to the position of the engine intakes:

if that black tube coming off the front of the block is the intake, then it definitely is functional... if its not the intake i dunno what the hell else it would be, lol

actually i would have to examine the truck to be sure, but that intake might suck right through the front grille, right above the radiator... hard to tell from the available pics....

i think that might be the case.

Damn nice truck, but I still think Dodge should drop the Viper engine & replace it with the Hemi V8. Maybe put a supercharger on it running relatively low pressure to get a power advantage over the Lightning.

The Viper engine is simply too expensive to compete in the same market as a Lightning. Yes, it will be a faster truck. But it's going to be spendy as hell, whereas Lightnings are relatively cheap.
