Staph... Dunno, but it definitely looks angry. I'd keep an eye on it, and if it starts spreading, see a doctor. You may want to go anyway, but I avoid doctors as much as possible, so my medical advice isn't necessarily the best.

Not sure if serious. Also not sure if that's staph...but it looks close enough that I would be getting my ass to a doctor ASAP if I was you.

It's spelled staph.

That's pretty infected, whatever it is.

Doesn't itchy usually mean healing? When I have had infections they have been some combination of swollen, warm, red, and painful, but they didn't itch.

I don't know about all that.

I know a doctor told me when I got cut (was forced to go, even though I already super glued it at work) that as long as it didn't get red, swollen, and/or start itching I was fine.

Itching and burning is cell lysis (destruction by dissolution) cause by foreign contaminants and chemicals, including dirt, air, solvents, etc, or bacterial secretions irritating and breaking down cell walls.

If you've thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and bandaged and its getting worse and continuing to burn/itch its still infected.

Problem is you've let it heal and dry up before cleaning it? Now you may have to suck it up and scrub the fucker out hard with a sterile abbrasive and antiseptic until exposing the underlying living tissue, and if it doesn't get better you probably need prescription antibiotics. Small swiss army knife like scissors are good for dead tissue removal, sterilized of course.

If you have redness that spreads you need to see a doctor. I just went through cellulitis, a deep skin infection. You do NOT want it to get worse or you're in for some serious shit.

If you have streaking you need to go to the ER.

I will circle it with a marker and check it later. My wife has some Cipro, wonder if I should take it. The last time I took an antibiotic(Bactrim) I had severe vomiting and diarrhea. It was about the most miserable experience of my life

Yeah pretty much. Number one medical advice from just about any real doctor is always going to be: if its not getting worse, isn't spreading, and there are no other symptoms, go home and let nature take care of itself.

Better option is to apply heat, with a hot water bottle or a heating pad - with a damp cloth between the source of heat and your skin. Make it as hot as you can stand without getting burned.

Even better than that, see a doctor. You don't need the infection being carried around by your blood stream to your organs.

Go to the doctor and get some antibiotics. It looks like staph. Doc will lance it and give you antibiotics. If it's staph it should be very painful.

FWIW, I've had similar looking injuries, and they got better by themselves. My last one was on my wrist. Not as bad as that, but I got mildly concerned. Swimming in the ocean seemed to help a lot. Maybe try soaking it in salt water.

Get to the ER or a clinic asap (something where you don't need an appointment, it's not super urgent, but it is today urgent), if it's not staph it's probably an ingrown hair and it's been let way too long. They'll give you antibiotics. That must be super painful. I've had ingrown hairs before and it looks something like that but not as bad, and it HURTS. Like 10 thousand knives hitting that one spot.

Does not hurt at all? Probably not ingrown hair then, but I'd still get it checked. Do you live in an area that has poisonous spiders like black widows and brown recluse? Maybe you got bit by something.

I had staph once and ignored it until it became golf ball size and I couldn't turn my head. I try to avoid the doctor cause I'm a cheap ass but I wouldn't f around with infections any more.

I had MRSA, atleast 5 times, and thats what it looks like.

One time the puss filled wound got so large, the doctor had to send me to the ER, where they got a knife and cut it open and drain the wound. There was a lot of puss and blood, and it hurt like a bitch.
