Perhaps, but he is missing a very important "S" in the domain name.

If it was me and my intent was to receive payment, before getting a lawyer involved, I would briefly explain my existing idea for the domain and send documentation with already accrued development charges as well as a 10-15% transfer fee. Of course, I would also let them know that is the only way to settle the matter w/o getting lawyers involved.

This isn't (yet anyways) a case of trademark infringement. This is a case of disputed cybersquatting-- and if it goes full term will be decided by the ICANN review board.

He has the name of their brand (Dockers) plus a generic word (store) in his domain name. Unless he can show some other reason for use of the word "Docker" in his domain name, they can and will take it away from him.

No lawsuit, no laywers.

I would have agreed to an "amicable trade" as well. IIRC he was initially going to fight it. But he was a 17 year old kid. It would have been fool hardy to send his parents into possible bankruptcy trying to defend it in court. Their initial offer was something like $50. Its only because he stirred up some grassroots support before he caved that microsoft gave him a better deal, imo.
