Are you suggesting that household pets are capable of astral projection?

No. I am suggesting that this "dreaming" they are supposedly doing is actually telepathic communication to other pets, planning their ultimate take over of the entire world by attacking the owners and deep frying their faces.

Dang I didn't know "open season" was based on a real person. Kids movies these days are so clever.

Hah, whenever I see my dog having a seizure in his sleep I grab a bunch of skin and go back n forth going 'oh shit, what is it?!?!'
Pisses him off everytime. I am sure my dog is gonna kill me in my sleep one day.

If it's a neutered or spayed cat, maybe all it's dreaming about is a life where it's got a hyperactive libido, and it's out gettin' it on with anything that's willing. I liked how Homer found out about sex:

"Zookeeper! Zookeeper! Those monkeys are killing each other!"
*whispers* "They're having sex."
"Oh."

To the uninformed observer, sex, depending on those involved, may look and sound somewhat violent and unpleasant.
I've never heard the sound of a cat in heat, either, but from hearsay, it seems that they can make quite an unpleasant racket.
Are they fighting? Are they having sex? Or is it Memorex?

my dog humps and she's neutered, so I think she gets her urges out.

I've awakened my calico from dreams when she was growling, since she only growls when she is upset. Not sure if it was the right thing to do or not.

Sometimes I wake her up when she's "snoring" too loudly as well, for my own benefit. It might not be snoring... it's a kind of moany/whiney type noise on exhaling. It goes way once she goes back to sleep.

I really enjoy it when I accidentally wake my tabby up, because he is ridiculously cute when he is half asleep. He's a really vocal cat but his voice when half awake is really creaky. Plus he gets the triangular eyes. It's cute. I am not sure he is capable of nightmares... he seems to thrive on excitement and adversity at times.

Do dogs 'n' cats sleepwalk? Supposedly it can be dangerous to awake humans when doing so.

I don't think I've seen the dogs or cats I've lived with ever have too many nightmares, usually just dreams. I've seen maybe two or three dog nightmares in my life, but never any cat ones.

But how will they mix the batter?

Yes. I also wake my wife and son if they're having bad dreams to the point that they're tossing/talking in their sleep.

My older brother claims that animals don't dream. BS IMHO.

After I hear him, I leave him so I can listen for about 10 seconds, because I think it sounds cute. And then I wake him up. He's usually crying.

My cat likes to sleep all the time, she is so lazy! Every day I say "hey, why don't you get a job" and she just purrs and goes back to sleep!!!

I'll only wake him if he is sleep barking. Sometimes he will start panting or growling in his sleep. I just assume he is chasing a giant cat.
Though last night he was very determined to get in my younger daughters room to sleep on her bed. He usually doesn't do that, but he was clawing at her door this time.

In 2 years, he's only had 1 (he's a dog). I woke him up after a few seconds by placing my hand on his side... Then he let out a big sigh...kind of funny.

My favorite things though are when he's running in his sleep or the first tiem he got the hiccups and couldn't figure out what was happening.

Sideways air running. Clear the path or be kicked! :D
