do you think using both shifts increases typing speed? I could hit 80wpm using just the left shift, but now that i'm doing monotonous database entry, i'm wondering if using both shifts would be able to increase my typing speed when there are lots of caps involved. hmm...

now that i think about it, i DO use the right shift button, but only when instant-messaging, and only when i ask a question. i hit right-shift > ? > enter very quickly, all at once. that's the only time i use right shift.

Left shift key only. I know people that press the caps lock button to capitalize a letter, then press the caps lock again to type everything else. O.O

i tested that out for a few days. didn't work out very well. I never use the capslock key anymore, unless i'm typing a paragraph in all caps. even 1-2 sentences I dont use capslock.

I forgot there was a right shift button

My reaction was: there's a right shift button?
Then I looked down, oh...

Pretty sure I use both, though I have never really thought about it before now.

I use both, but I'm also using a natural keyboard, which kind of forces me to do so.

Does anyone know of a free online typing speed test? I took one a while back and it told me 80wpm, but now that i think about it i type much faster than 1 1/3 words per second.

I know that I overused one and not the other. But I didn't bother ever learn which one was overused. Then this thread came along. I looked down at my keyboard. The "shift" printing is virtually gone on the right side. The left "shift" key looks even less used than the Pause/Break key. I guess that answered my question. Typing this post confirmed it. I even typed the quotation marks with only my right hand (pinky and ring finger).

Hmm, the "e", "n", and "i" keys are the most worn then the "shift" is the 4th most worn. That isn't surprizing.

I use only left shift/ctrl/alt/win keys, yet I have one of those "natural"/split keyboards.

i dont think having a natural keyboard will force you to use both shifts. the keys on the left side of the keyboard aren't any harder to reach with a split keyboard.

The only time I touch the right shift key is by accident. Its a habit to use only the left shift key from playing first person shooters.
