You have to get the right screen protector. I got the ultraclear from sgpstore and the protector is as smooth as glass.

I bought a case for my EVO but I don't like the bulk it adds. Right now I'm using a full body Invisible Shiled and it does everything I would want a regular case to protect against (scuffs and scratches), so I'm good as long as I don't drop/kick it or something.

Bare. I think phone condoms are ugly and bulky. I dont resell my phones and view it as disposable item with 2-3 yr shelf life. Plus most new phones come with gorilla glass or tempered glass screens. These screens can take severe punishment, much more than I can dish out. If nails and screws rubbed on the screen cant scratch the screen, my keys and coins arent going to hurt it.

Galaxy S doesnt even use gorilla glass. I think Im pretty safe judging from the above video. Plus my Vibrant came with spare back cover I can always swap out.

you guys going over a year on new looking phones must not use them much as phones from a pocket.

After a year, even with a screen protector I am due to replace cosmetically.

Bare. I hate cases as they add bulk. I've never really had a problem with scratches but they don't bug me that much if I get them.

Topic: Do you use protection or go bare?

I wonder how this thread would have turned out if it was posted under Love & Relationships.

I have no screen protector on my Incredible. I put one on when I first got it, but the screen is so much nicer without one. Plus, I suck at putting on screen protectors.
I keep the phone in a Nexus One sleeve in my pocket and my phone is in perfect condition, can't find a scratch on the screen at all.

That's what I did with my Desire, I got the "genuine" HTC case with a pull tab to extract the phone. But now I'm concerned that the constant insertion and extraction of the phone itself will wear out the conductive layer of the touch screen... On the plus side, the way the screen rubs against the inside of the case actually helps clean fingerprints from it...

When I tap the screen on my HTC Desire with my fingernail, it feels and sounds like cheap plastic. Not at all confident that it would last any kind of punishment.

Can't see the point of body armor without screen protectors, like the expensive silicone covers you can get that you just snap to the back of the phone. I mean, you can even order back covers for HTC phones from their website for the same price as one of those "protectors"'. The screen is what needs protection as far as I'm concerned, not the back cover. I've never dropped a phone in my life so far, and don't intend to.

This is what my Samsung flip phone looked like after 4 years of use. I always kept it on a dedicated "phone pocket" with no other items. Now imagine if that was the screen instead of the back cover...

Anything with a screen gets screen protection. My iPhones have been thin enough that a case doesn't make it that large and has really saved it at times.

Nothing on my droid since I got it in December. Looks just as it came out of the box, minus the worn off camera button(common problem) and some lint. Always in my right front pocket, sometimes with change mixed in.

Bare here as well. I have had my Droid since release and without a scratch. My wife has the acrylic case on hers and looks pretty ugly, bulky and not to mention it doesn't fit in the media dock.

Part of the reason I use the screen protector on my Pre is well, it's plastic, not glass. And as a side comment, I don't have any scratches on my protector.

And I only carry my phone in my pocket. The key is it's the only thing in my left pocket sans an ID card from time to time.

If I had a phone w/ gorilla glass, I probably would go bareback.

Screen protector on my iPhone. I might write a mini-review if I get the time. Even with the iPhone's "30 times harder than normal glass" screen I got a couple of minor scratches (keys in pocket) before I bought my screen protector. Didn't bother putting up a protector on the back of the iPhone 4.

I have a t700 from sony ericsson. No protection, it stays in my pocket with a piece of cloth and nothing else, keys are in the other pocket.
I also never let anything fall, so it's not necessary at all.
