One that I can think of offhand has to do with the amount of time it takes for the OS to format the drive using the given filesystem. Formatting a drive in ext3 or reiserfs is almost instant whereas NTFS or FAT32 will take a long, long time. I'm not sure what Windows is doing while it performs the format.. perhaps some kind of diagnostic, analyzing for bad sectors and skipping them?

And can I convert it easily (XP Pro) ?
Click Me
Actually, the NTFS file protection won't help me since this machine always uses my logon and it'd be suspicious for my fiancee to use her own logon all of a sudden. :) Or does NTFS offer a different type of file protection ?

Trying to hide the pr0n, eh? :D
What else ?! Oh and not to mention converting my 95% used 130GB of space would take forever and a half.

Best method: Buy and install new drive, transfer all the pr0n to it. Unmount the drive from the management console.

The likelihood that your g/f is technically savvy enough to understand the concept of mounted and unmounted filesystems is quite small.

thats exactly what its doing, if you do a quick format in ntfs it just blows away the F-pointer table which is immediate, a full format will do more then that.

NTFS for my main partition and FAT32 for my backup because I like using PowerQuest Drive Image to recover my other partition with just a Windows 98 SE boot diskette.

I can name you one which means the world.
ReiserFS is open, with published specifications. NTFS is not.
Oh and the hidden attribute
and good ol' fragmentation

it's tied in too closely to window to be able to list flaws which are exclusive to the file system.
oh wait, that's another flaw. Too bad.

OS/2 Warp and NT 3.51

<--- worked for Citibank Diners club (IBM Tokenring/OS/2 outfit)

Who needs Norton Ghost when you can just

"copy C: D: /s/v/r/h/o/t" ;)
I love OS/2. It was worlds ahead of Windows back in the day. Coulda, shoulda been the one. Sure it took a couple minutes to boot, but it never had to be shut down. I loved that OS.

what difference does it make if its open or not, you are too much of a n00b to even think about editing it to serve your purposes, so are 99% of linux users. you guys think you are 1337 cause you learned how to use gcc, give me a fvckin break. when you actually start making fixes are editing the kernel compnenets to your needs then open your n00b mouth. and ntfs has a hidden attribute as well as built in security as opposed to the havoc you can create with sym links and net mounts.

NTFS on main, FAT32 on mp3 drive. At first it was laziness, but it comes in handy if I want to use Knoppix :)
