Project Reality for BF2 is the single best mod I've played in a game. Next I'd have to say was Desert Combat back in the good ol' 1942 days.

I have both Oblivion and STALKER installed and will play one of them next in all likelihood. I've heard this bit about mods being essential for both games. I'm leaning toward playing Oblivion first. What are the essential mods for either of these two games?

Don't want to steer OT here...no, I do not use mods at this time, but want to if it will improve/enhance gameplay.

I'll take 3 good maps over however many lesser ones any day. In fact for FPS mods I'd say 3 maps is the maximum they should go with initially. That'd encourage careful selection, emphasise quality over quantity and let gamers get to grips without being overwhelmed.

99% of fan made MP maps I've played sucked. TBF, I'd estimate that for FPS games probably 1/2 of the official maps are cut out of rotations on servers after about a year - it's no easy task even for pros. But fan mappers spend a heck of a long time doing a difficult task. It's a shame few seem to have a good grasp of gameplay or actually care about it being played. But then the community aren't interested in helping out the few that actually make a big effort to beta test.

There's a Pong map for Wolf: ET that's loads of fun. The whole time the pong ball is bouncing back and forth, and you have to use dynamite or a det pack to blow up the other team's defending wall so the ball will get past it and score one for your team. And all the while, typical team deathmatch activity is going on.

Last mod I tried was "Hot Coffee". Then uninstalled it as it was a stupid minigame and hard to control. :)

Mods were essential for Morrowind. Cool looking new items and houses - plus was nice to add new monsters and NPCs. Greatly adds to replayability.

I played TF for Quake, TFC for Half-Life, CS for Half-Life, DC for BF1942. The Command & Conquer games also have some really good mods, such as Eagle Red for Red Alert 2. The normal online play for RA2 sucks, but Eagle Red lets you play as Yuri ;)
