Of course I use them, I think it is rather ignorant not to have one unless you can't. But I am not gonna act like a hypocrite cause at one time did not have one for a couple months cause I wanted to find one I liked and I did I was using those cheapo ones on my currant rig(Don't kill me lol). I found a nice APC 3500Jp which has been really good. Yea, It was $50 bucks but I got a nice discount on it from a friend.
Now who uses surge protectors here or a UPS?
Here are a few tips for some people...
I am acutally gonna buy a UPS cause I don't think a surge protector by itself it good enough. When washing machine is on, my light surges a little bit but you have to stare at it and that light is plugged into that protector. To me that is the way I test out surge protectors. I plugged a cheapo one into a light it and was surging like mad on that one it was nutz.
Another good thing about having a UPS is 2 things. If you get a thunder storm and your house gets hit, it will go to the backup instead and burn that out. And if you use are working on things it is good to have power when your power goes out, so you can save and shutdown safely. Now remember when you go out to get a surge protector look for a good brand with a high Joule rating or Jp. And make sure the specs say it too.
Cause I have seen ones that say 3000Jp and on the side it says 2440Jp of protection, I was like whoa false avertising heh.
