If it's one of those buffet places where a server brings your drinks and keeps them filled, then yes. If I have to fill my drink, no. :)

Most of the time I do...But if I've only got $4 and my bill is $4, I'm not gonna break out the credit card just to tip...

No. I feel that if you're payingo get into one of those places, you are already paying enough. If someone there does work for you, so what? They are getting payed. If they aren't getting payed enough, then make them yell at their employers, not take my hard0earned money out of my pocket, just because they did their job!

If there's a server filling up my drink every once in a while without me having to ask I'll drop a single on my way out. Otherwise, nope, not in a buffet place.

OH wait...buffets are different. If someone is *exceptionally* good then I'll tip...otherwise, I won't

Yes, I normally leave a dollar a person if they fill our drinks, bring me more plates, keep the table clear, etc. I started doing this when my kids were smaller because I sometimes felt sorry for whoever had to clean up after we left.

I never tip at thechinese buffet place I always go to. They only fill up the water glass, not the other drink, and the price is only $5.50. I figure, I'm doing all the work, why should I tip someone for doing nothing?

That's a good rule. Dollar a person for buffets.

Nope. They are not serving me. If they want to fill up my drink go ahead but you get nothing for it.

I tip all the time even if it is a buffet, the faster/better the service is filling up my drink the better the tip. But usually no more then two bucks, usually a single if they are decent.

This thread seems to ask "do you tip at buffet places?" OK.

If my drink is refilled for me, w/o me having to hunt down the server, then I leave a dollar. If the server goes out of his/her way to be friendly, refill drink, bring plates/napkins/etc, then I leave two dollars.

If I have to hunt you down more than once to refill my drink, you get nothing. My second job is tip-based, so I know what it's like to work for tips. :)

On the chinese buffet place I regularly have lunches, they'd clear plates and refill drinks. So, I'd tip $1 for $5.75 bill.

For $5.75, you can get all-you-can eat lo-mein, kung-pow chicken, sesame chicken, roasted chicken breast, clams, shrimp, and desert.
If $1 tip seems too much for you, then perhaps you really need that $1 (italized for sarcasm).

I'll tip IF the waiter/waitress keeps my glass filled and is courteous. If not then screw them:)

I've never understood tipping. You're supposed to tip a waitress because she brought you food. She gets a salary does she not? So why am I paying her for doing her job? Her employer pays her for bringing me my food, I don't know why I'm supposed to give her more money...

As for at a buffet, nah, I wouldn't tip anyone if no body brought me anything.

Edit:

Same goes for hair dressers. You pay them for cutting your hair and then you tip them for what? Cutting your hair.

I still tip 15% for even less than average service.
My norm is 20%.
I got thru college as a server, tips are important.
But,
Piss me off with something stupid--and I will stiff you as quick as the next person :frown:
