Uh yeah. Wtf? Why would I tip them?

I only tip at restaurants where my drink is filled for me while eating. That means no tips for sandwich makers, coffee shop employees, or busboys at self-serve (drinks) buffets.

I was at a restaurant yesterday and there were 3 takeout orders before me of like 15-25+ meals per order. The total prices were about $150-220+. They had a guy carry out all the orders on trays for them and the girl made a comment that they didn't even bother to tip them. She then busted out her jar of tip and I felt bad for her cause there were 3 of them splitting $25. I think for large orders like that, a tip would be nice but for my $8 meal, I ain't tipping.

Do you tip at a grocery store?

I work at a grocery store, so I can answer for most people... no

See, I don't care if I get money, it just annoys me that the people just get in their car right away and that's it. When they try to give me a tip I say no anyway.

the price of the meal is not in consideration of tipping. tipping is a for great service.

take out is deserves NO tip.

so when you get coffee from Starbucks and there's a tip jar. Do you guys just ignore it?

of course... starbucks employees aren't like waiters who rely on tips for the majority of their pay, and is putting coffee into a cup really going above and beyond their basic job description?

their tip was burned up in the gas/time/patience i used to get there. If its one where they have to walk it out to my car I say "thanks"

theres no reason to tip someone who is making a full hourly rate ( you know, not waitress pay but minimum wage or more.)

How about the people who get in their car, start it up so you have smelly ass fumes all up in your face when you are trying to put their groceries in the back of their car. Those people always get home with smooshed bread or cracked eggs 😉

I do actually. But it's a special case I guess as the place I go to people know me pretty well and service me well when I do sit down. These days I mostly order take out from them, even then they'd offer me to sit down, relax, and bring me tea while I wait. Just a nominal $2-3 on top of the bill, nothing much really.

That's probably $2-3 well spent. It either gets you extra helpings, or keeps the goo off your meal 😉

A "no" would suffice. Now you're just making yourself look like an asshole.

Occasionally. And I make it a point to tip the bartender at one bar I order take out from -- she is losing other people's tips while cooking my food (has to cook and bartend).

Knowing a few people who have worked as take-out employees for restaurants such as Chili's and Red Lobster, I know that they do a lot more work to get it ready than McDonalds employees. I usually tip a buck or two.

Yea, because the restaurant doesn't pay them. They work for tips.

Yeah but McDonalds?

"Here kid, go buy yourself another nickle bag"

I tip at some of the places that make you wait in the car while people bring your food to you (Texas Roadhouse, The Outback). But even then it's not a 15-20% tip, it's usually a buck or two, maybe more if the weater is cruddy.

Yes, i tip if i get carry out from a restaurant like Chilis but not McDonalds or a fast food joint. I used to work at a restaurant so i know what its like to work for tips.

If you order take-out from a restaurant that doesn't normally sell take-out food you should leave a tip, otherwise none is required.
