The place I worked at (local place) charged $1 per delivery to cover the cost of gas/time spent driving to the person's house.

Coming from a former pizza deliver guy, that is so very very true. You tip your waiter for taking your order, and bringing your food to you ... and they get paid, why do you tip them but not the pizza delivery driver? They are the one's that take the orders most of the time, and then bring your food to you, how is it any different?

Being a former pizza delivery driver, I more than overtip. I usually tip $4+change, now if they're incredibly slow I still tip at least $2 on a normal order($12).

I overtip. Usually I tip 25% plus whatever change I'm supposed to get. But usually it goes with how much cash I have on me.

No different. I don't tip waiters either. I avoid eating anywhere there are waiters/waittresses as well. Not that I mind someone walking my food over, but the entire concept of paying someone the cost of a parking meter and then expecting them to live on tips, which get taxed at a set rate whether they make that much or not is so entirely assinine that I won't participate in the whole system. Did order a pizza for new years, first in a few years, maybe I should have splurged and tipped then. But then it did take an hour to arrive even after a 35 min estimate...which reminds me...

Why tip at all if they're incredibly slow? You also tip your mailman for reading your magazines and delivering them a month later, your UPS guy for jumping on your package while you sign for it? Tipping people for poor service is hard to understand no matter what your background.

The Pizza guy isn't eating your pizza, nor is it their fault for having the pizza go out late most of the time. They don't make the pizza's, they only take them out when they are ready to go out. Now, if your pizza arrived cold I'd give the delivery driver a mouthful, but if it still arrives hot then I can't blame them. Not to mention, some people aren't exactly the best with giving directions ...

10% + 25 cents is my rate. So my last order, $7.99 large pizza and $1.99 breadsticks, guy gets $1.25. Tax does not get accounted into tip, since he isnt delivering me tax.

Yes.. If you've ever worked in the service industry, you'd tip too. I used to get so pissed at people that used to leave lousy tips when I worked as a waitor. A lot of the time, it had nothing to do with you, it's just that some people are such cheap asses.

I just had a treadmill delivered. I was able to get free delivery and the guys even took it in my basement for me. I tipped them $20 each for busting their ass. I think it was well worth saving my back as well as a friends to have it taken down stairs for me.

Anyway..

I usually tip 2-4$. Don't know why I tip so much compared to some people but I like them to know I appreciate the service they give me.

yes, usually a buck or two-- usually round up on the change somehow

but if the pizza is really late, ZERO

I don't like to tip them much if they charge $$$ for delivery (some places around here charge $2 or MORE for delivery...)

I used to deliver pizza in high school i always tip because most companies dont provide you with a car or gas money the money i would make from working my shift 60% on average would go to fuel, insurance, maintenece of my car. If people didn't tip me It was costing me personally everytime i brought that person their food. I dont see how if someone can afford to not cook their food themselves and afford to pay for it to be made for them how a dollar or two would really hurt them. There were always exceptions such as when you show up to a place that looks like its being rented by a family that appears to be just making it by, and are maybe doing a nice thing for their kids i would always make sure i gave back exact change and Thank them if they offered a tip but politely refuse.

edit: skipped a word in a sentence

I usually tip $2 to $4, but just the other day I tipped $8 on $12 b/c the delivery guy turned out to be one of my friends. I'm a server so I know how it feels to get a crappy tip.

when i was a delivery guy we knew who the good tippers were and who the crappy ones were.

When we had say 4 pizzas to deliver we would deliver to the good tipper first even if it was out of the way. then to the crappy tippre last. if we are not going to get tipped i was not going to risk loseing a good tip from someone else.

back at the store we were able to put in on the computer if they were a good tipper or not. so everyone knew and chose delivery right.

WE had a couple that would tip great im talking $5-10 a delivery. needless to say they got the pizza really fast. they were also really nice people.
