I generally tip 10 to 15 percent. I can't afford to tip much more than that. Being a driver for a car rental company, a complementary pickup service I might add, I never get tips. I think I've been tipped by three people in the year and a half I've worked there. No, I do not do a shitty job. :p

I usually tip 2-3$ on lunch, nothing at buffets, nothing if it's the owners waiting on you.

15P is the norm yeah. I usually tip 10-15P. I've left 0.5P tips for shit service before, lol

used P for percent since the percent symbol is borked

I tip excessively at bars or places that I plan on going to often (servers at pool halls) so I can get good service.

Otherwise it's 15% if I feel they deserve it.

One of the bars I go to has a 10/15/20 percent tip calculated for you. It's on the receipt but not the bill, so as you pay your bill you can easily add whatever percent you want or not. It's nice.

Last night we went to a local restaurant, only second time being there. Food came quick, was okay at best, but the service was shit. It started out good, but she never stopped by to check on us for refills, and after dropping off the food only once asked if we were done (my wife was in the restroom with the kids so I said no, probably another 10 minutes). It was 40 minutes before anybody came by again, because people started coming in for new tables and they got "busy".

When she finally stopped by again she was in a rush, and obviously wanted us out of there. Our kids' meals came with an ice cream or something, she didn't offer or mention it, and I wasn't going to sit around there anymore, so figured a $0 tip would balance out the loss of a dollar or so worth of ice cream.

If she had checked on us only once to offer a refill or hadn't forgotten that last bit, she'd have gotten a tip.

IMO Tip should always be based on the quality of service. I really don't like places that build the tip into the cost automatically. Tips are a reward for doing a good job. If a server is going to get a tip regardless of what kind of job they do what motivation to they have to try?
