Do you tip in Canada?

I grew up visiting Toronto as a kid but I don't remember now.

You guys don't tip right? As a matter of fact, only US has the tip culture while neither Europe or rest of America does it.

I was confused because we were visiting Niagara Falls and checks had the 'tip' field. I assume it's because the place is a tourist trap close to US border.

Do you tip when you eat at upper scale restaurants?
Do you tip bartenders?

Meh, I should not have tipped on top of your ridiculous 16% tax.

15% was the standard when I was still in the states, and is up here in BC as well. Tipping for deliveries or in restaurants is standard, for pickups or straight stores it's not. I don't put anything in tip cups if I'm picking up the item.

How is that the server's fault? 20% is the new 15%.

It's not. But for comparison, I can get a pint for $3 in Oregon, with no sales tax. I'm not one of the AT'ers who makes a million a week, so after a few pints, there's simply less cash left over to tip with.

Food and drink is stupidly overpriced in Vancouver; you obviously have no idea.

You'll probably only tip over if you drink excessively, or spin around really fast and get dizzy. Otherwise, you should be OK.

For Vancover, no, but I lived in Ontario for 28 years.

It is common to tip 15-20 percent in Canada, depending on level of service and overall cost of the meal.

IB is right that in bars this tends to be much less as people often just leave the change on the table after getting a beer.

Fuck no you don't especially if you're visiting and they won't have an opportunity to piss in your food the next time.

Restaurant staff in Canada make a fair wage, they're not raped by their employers on the assumption of tips.

ahahahahaa.

Waitstaff up here are paid less than minimum wage too.

Minimum Wage for Liquor Servers in Ontario

The minimum wage is also lower for liquor servers. This is based on the assumption that anyone serving liquor -- including waiters, waitresses and bartenders -- will also receive tips. The minimum wage for liquor servers in Ontario is $8.90 per hour.

Minimum wage is 10.25 per hour.

I tip depending on service. Shitty service usually gets 1 penny, its an insulting tip...worse than 0. Lets them know you didn't forget. Good service 15 to 20 percent.
