Do you think the reason most high tech folks are paid high salaries...

is to support their addictive habit of constantly buying new computer parts?

and setting up new machines to experiment with? etc?

No, its because management is clueless about technology, and the fact that you can make it work makes them think your are indisposable.

Most "high tech folks" that I know don't consistantly buy new pc parts or set up new machines.

What's your definition of "high salaries" anyway?

That's a high salary? That's practically the minimum for any job requiring a college degree.

28 living in ontario

What the hell?? You're speaking about Canadian dollars too?

$35k wouldn't be enough for 2 months here.

Then again...I guess it depends on how much stupid crap you buy, something I seem to be incredibly good at.

I would say that 70k+ is highly paid. I'm also sure that there are plenty in the high tech industry making $100k+.

Depends on your experience level. Many of the "high tech" people I know were paid > $50,000 / year out of college.

For the household it's about $15-20k in, $15k out. A little bit more out in the holidays, of course.
