Do you think Ford will ever drop the Mustang?

The reason I ask is this:

I currently own a 2005 GT (see sig) and really want a Cobra. I know I should have held out a little longer and continued saving for the past 2 years, but I wanted to be one of the first with the new Mustang.

Anyways, I said to myself that one day I will own a car like that....hell, it will probably be a Cobra when the time comes. That is if Ford still makes the Mustang......and a much more powerful version of it.

***Just remember, Chevy dropped the Camaro....albeit for a short time

I forgot about that....back when the Probe hit the market...the supposed "Mustang Replacement"

No, people love it, I don't see why they would.

I wonder if they ever plan on doing the suspension properly, especially when even the Focus rides better.

So that makes this thread pointless. 😉

You do not get good handling and a smooth ride. You can have a nice, soft ride, or you can have good handling. But you CANNOT have both. Sure, the Focus rides decently, but it handles like a canoe full of water, on stilts.

Why did they remove the independent rear suspension from the platform and replace it with a solid axle?
Um, they didn't. The previous Mustangs had live axles too.

The ONLY Mustang with IRS was the previous generation's Cobra, and the requisite subframe modifications added several hundred pounds of weight to the car while making the car perform worse at the dragstrip than a live axle would have. The simple fact is that the people who buy Cobras thend to race them at the dragstrip and not on road courses. Plus the current live axle is incredibly well-behaved and the difference between that and an independent setup isn't sufficient to make the investment necessary for an IRS setup that would cope with 400+ horsepower. (The stock Mustang live axle is heavily over-engineered and people with modified cars that are pushing past 450 RWHP have reported no reliability issues with it.)

Considering the number of idiot jocks that love mustangs at my high school I doubt it. They have a market.. the rich football playing kids.

Correction, that added hundreds of lbs to the sprung weight of the car but lightened the unsprung weight and improved the performance on the road by a huge margin. Personally, I'd rather see the new Cobra with an IRS.

I've had a Mustang for the last 14 years, and I have always loved them...until the '05's and up. I love them from an engine standpoint, but they look like crap to me. I realize I'm in the minority on this by how well they are selling, but I hope they do another major redesign and drop the whole retro crap...

Just imo...

So did the 3-link live axle now used in the 2005+ cars. And adding sprung weight to reduce unsprung weight is robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Yes, so they can "revive" it (sales) a few years later.

This is what Chevy did...and personally I think its ridiculous.....however it is a beutiful car.

yah really.. people do some homework...

Live axle with the right setup will flat out handle..

Cobras and Saleens and other VERY high HP mods of the stang can and do OWN jap and euro trash and even your god almightly z0sux.. Ive watched Saleen stangs with 750+ hp dominate at SCCA events..

and then seen the same cars ripping 10s and 9s at the drag strip..

mustangs are one of the most versatile cars ever produced.. as slow or as fast as you want them to be.. and Ford makes half the performance parts foir the car in house..

Ya'll really should go to a Fun Ford Weekend some time and see 1000hp cars running around street legal..
