Do you think Ford will ever drop the Mustang?

If it stops being profitable then they'll drop it. They're a business.

I don't see it happening any time soon.

A couple of my friends have later model Mustangs.

They still have them because they can't find anybody to buy them without taking a loss.

Bad ride, bad resale, bad reliability, horrid road visibility...marginally fast in a straight line - if the road is dry.

Mostly owned by rich kids around here and divorced women with kids. At least the new models don't look like a Ford Escort like the 80's version did.

Still a nut-less wonder if you ask me, but just like a Mig 25 if you stick a big enough powerplant in a big lump of steel it will go fast.

Um, they didn't. The previous Mustangs had live axles too.

The ONLY Mustang with IRS was the previous generation's Cobra, and the requisite subframe modifications added several hundred pounds of weight to the car while making the car perform worse at the dragstrip than a live axle would have. The simple fact is that the people who buy Cobras thend to race them at the dragstrip and not on road courses. Plus the current live axle is incredibly well-behaved and the difference between that and an independent setup isn't sufficient to make the investment necessary for an IRS setup that would cope with 400+ horsepower. (The stock Mustang live axle is heavily over-engineered and people with modified cars that are pushing past 450 RWHP have reported no reliability issues with it.)

Just saved me a lot of typing. Thanks. He is completely correct.

And, NO Ford will never axe the Mustang. The camaro got axed for good reason.

Did GM actually drop the Camaro? Yeah but not totally. I have a feeling even if it goes away, it'll be back. It's far too popular.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

So how long have you been under that rock?

OP I would get an 03-04 terminator, cheaper than a new GT500, and it is faster.

Although, the New Shelby GT looks quite promising.

Very true except for the C clips, junky 28 spline axles and the stock Traction-Lok that does 1 leg burn outs after 10,000 mi 😀

My first car was a '91 GT...Since then I've owned nothing but 5.0 Mustansgs...Right now I got a nice '91 Notchback...with some goodies

no its not.... the GT500 eats terminators... BADLY.. MM&FF already ran the 2 together.. with a couple bolt on mods the Shelby REALLY wakes up... (exhaust system, pulley etc)

and being that its pretty much the same motor thats in the FordGT the aftermarket 1000hp Twin turbo kit bolts right on using stock everything..
trash the supercharger and throw on the Joes 1000hp turbo kit... and boooyah an exotic eating masterpiece for about 100k less than a Ford GT or Saleen S7

No, people love it, I don't see why they would.

I wonder if they ever plan on doing the suspension properly, especially when even the Focus rides better.
You do not get good handling and a smooth ride. You can have a nice, soft ride, or you can have good handling. But you CANNOT have both. Sure, the Focus rides decently, but it handles like a canoe full of water, on stilts.

I'm sure anything is possible with enough money...

with Fords absolutley.. get rid of thier sh1tpot exhaust and wake up 40-50 ponys for the entire set.. and still be legal...

and my point was that the 500 hp Shelby stock was still beating Terms..

No way in hell. Ford has to things that make them money, the Mustang and the F150. No way they will ever drop either of those.

LOL a stock shelby beats a stock GT500 any day. The GT500 is only quicker to 100mph. Also you can take any friggen car and spend money to make it faster. Does that mean I will do it? No. But with a few mods that are relatively cheap you can get a lot out of the 03 Cobra's engine.

Go over the SVTPerformance and post what you just said, they would laugh at you.

I was watching one of those Saturday morning car shows on Spike a while back, with a S/C pulley, cat back, and chip...the '03 Cobra gained close to 100 RWHP. Very impressive, and for well under $1k
