If the government started taking away constitutional rights do you think people would actually take to the streets ? What do you think it would take for people to actually start doing something more than complaining on fox news ?

Before , people would fight for their rights to the death if need be.
I doubt most Americans now would fight to the death for any of the constitutional rights. People have become soft about such things. As long as you keep them happy with creature comforts the majority will not care if you change the constitution. They may gripe about it, but they will not fight for it.

There are some like gun owners that may shout louder, but I doubt even they would actually take to the streets. We have become a nation that has forgotten where it came from.

People complain about gun owners with things like "what do you need that for, just because you might get robbed ?" They don't even understand the whole reason why the right to bear arms is there in the first place. It wasn't to protect us from one another. It was so the government was aware that if it crossed us, or tried to do what the kings did, we could rise up against them. The ultimate power check.

People may claim to be civilized , but when it comes down to it and the government is doing things they don't want and they are the only ones with the guns, what are they going to do ? Stand in the street and yell at them ? Or how about trying to vote them out, when they cancel the voting rights ?

I seriously doubt it will ever come to that, but if it did in todays society, I think they just have to keep them in their creature comforts. People would do nothing more than complain.

The majority didn't care about anything that is currently going on until it changed their life personally. Ask people on the street where all this started and see how many can tell you . In the past it was a nation where people got involved with what was going on, now though, give them a cookie and pat them on the head and the government can do all it wants.

I hear people all the time say "Yeah that AIG thing is a mess", then the next sentence is "So what we eating for dinner ?" . It is like people expect someone somewhere to solve all the problems, they got better things to do.

Obama was perfect for president. He told people what they wanted to hear. An all powerful wizard who was going to change the world and cure their problems, so they could go back to their lives and forget about all this government rubbish.

For the people, by the people, changed to For the people, did you catch the game last night ?

Yes, I do think that a percentage of the population will fight for their rights.

The US has a process for government change. Elections are scheduled for every two and four years. Who runs the governmernt will change If a large enough group become concerned about the direction and or the actions of the Federal and State governments.

In the US political landscape, FDR, JFK and LBJ, Mr Reagan, and Mr Obama represented major change in direction.

Wow, that one hit the mark. One can only hope that some folks will pull their ipods out of their ass and get as pissed off as some of the rest of us are, and have an effect for change.

The problem is there are not enough conservatives left to adequately fight for our rights and you can?t expect help from the liberals as they are too busy giving them away as fast as they can.

For me this solidifies that you have no present 'need' to fight for your rights.

What is it you think needs to be fought for at present outside the current means legally available to you? For it to be something truly valid I do not believe it could be partisan or singularly minded as you claim.
