Do you think people would fight for their rights ?
If the government started taking away constitutional rights do you think people would actually take to the streets ? What do you think it would take for people to actually start doing something more than complaining on fox news ?

Before , people would fight for their rights to the death if need be.
I doubt most Americans now would fight to the death for any of the constitutional rights. People have become soft about such things. As long as you keep them happy with creature comforts the majority will not care if you change the constitution. They may gripe about it, but they will not fight for it.

There are some like gun owners that may shout louder, but I doubt even they would actually take to the streets. We have become a nation that has forgotten where it came from.

People complain about gun owners with things like "what do you need that for, just because you might get robbed ?" They don't even understand the whole reason why the right to bear arms is there in the first place. It wasn't to protect us from one another. It was so the government was aware that if it crossed us, or tried to do what the kings did, we could rise up against them. The ultimate power check.

People may claim to be civilized , but when it comes down to it and the government is doing things they don't want and they are the only ones with the guns, what are they going to do ? Stand in the street and yell at them ? Or how about trying to vote them out, when they cancel the voting rights ?

I seriously doubt it will ever come to that, but if it did in todays society, I think they just have to keep them in their creature comforts. People would do nothing more than complain.

The majority didn't care about anything that is currently going on until it changed their life personally. Ask people on the street where all this started and see how many can tell you . In the past it was a nation where people got involved with what was going on, now though, give them a cookie and pat them on the head and the government can do all it wants.

I hear people all the time say "Yeah that AIG thing is a mess", then the next sentence is "So what we eating for dinner ?" . It is like people expect someone somewhere to solve all the problems, they got better things to do.

Obama was perfect for president. He told people what they wanted to hear. An all powerful wizard who was going to change the world and cure their problems, so they could go back to their lives and forget about all this government rubbish.

For the people, by the people, changed to For the people, did you catch the game last night ?

breaking news, people care more about things that impact them directly and affect their daily lives as opposed to things happening in the distance that may or may not have any impact whatsoever on them.

Get your tin foil! Get it here!

Also, you speak of Obama as if he's the only candidate who tells the people what they want to hear. Every presidential candidate tells the people what they want to hear.

And that is the reason why the problems that we are having will only get worse.

If it was direct enough, or serious enough, yes, some would fight. Not many, but it was never many. The first revolution wasn't even supported (never mind fought) by a majority of the population. There are a few ways to cause total revolution, but I seriously doubt anyone would be stupid enough to do them.

Yes, guns are one. Simple obstructions won't cause much, but a total ban or reversal would be immediate full out revolution.

Religion is another. Declare religion illegal, or declare religion necessary, and there'd be war.

Maybe a few other things...but not too much.

That is what I'm interested in.
Looking back at other governments over the centuries and what caused people to get involved I started wondering what is the breaking point for people now. I don't think we are anywhere near anything like a revolution.

That's the problem. You have the delusion you made some points. You can't actually see that you are insane but sane people can.

Great patients is required when dealing with the mentally ill. It is very important and actually good that the psychosis Obama is causing among these loons is happening. It is always darkest before the dawn and a boil begins to heal after it is lanced. We are in for a long period of exploding pustules from the folk on the right. Their world is dying and they are feeling lost. They don't yet know the tremendous joy that goes with being sane.

If you have something to add on topic say it, otherwise STFU!
Take your trolling elsewhere.

I added more than you can carry. You don't have a topic. You've swallowed a bunch of shit and have vomited it here. The paranoids on the right have had their brains, such as they are, in overdrive because of fear. Go smell some roses. You'll be OK.

You have said nothing relevant , only comments that you want to be insulting . I'm not insulted. In fact I pity you.

It's the invisible hand of capitalism that should be at work fixing our problems.

And it is a shame that these so-called "Democrats" in power and the liberals in the media, want to demonize capitalism and replace it with statism. We will be fine as long as that doesn't happen. I think we still have sufficient division of power to prevent statism, but no doubt we're on the edge.

Good question, MW.
As much as I hate to say it, but I don't think most would lay it on the line and let the chips fall where they may.
Let us hope that it does not come to that, but I'm glad to know some of us are prepared to pay the price.

Not on any large scale. There will always be small scale protests.

You have to remember that as societies advance along a timeline, the likelihood of large scale conflicts diminish...we're supposed to learn from our mistakes so we don't repeat them...eventually.

I plan to bury my guns if I think my rights are about to be revoked. After that, I dunno if I would be a part of an uprising. The idea that a modern day militia armed with pistols and semi automatic rifles able to take down the modern military is not that feasible (WOLVERINES!). In the middle east, they at least have access to rockets, RPGs, and automatic rifles. It is a bit more difficult to smuggle those types of weapons inland in the US.

Really? We have tons of cocaine and other drugs smuggled in via trucks, cargo ships, and other means. If there is a market for RPGs, C4, shit like that in the event of an uprising. You bet your bottom dollar the uprising will have them.

Sane or not to be sane that is the question. For if we lance the boil without universal health care, the wound may become infected and thou can lose more than just the toe.

Start taking away people's cars, houses, money, and belongings. Abolish private property, and the whole country would be united as one.

I find your comment about "trying to do what the kings did" somehow hilarious given the current state of our country. You have your kings, but they don't wear purple coats and sit in thrones.

And yes, I think the average American feels a sense of hopelessness when it comes to changing anything. Personally, I feel absolutely exhausted just trying to have a conversation with people that frequent P&N and people in the real world. It's like sports fanaticism, though in this game there is no winner. People are more interested in "winning" (winning what, I don't know) and catering to their teams without regard for actual discussion.

I know only one thing: If we all sit here and continue to bitch and moan about the silly things that are littered all over P&N, any hopes of any change in any regard will be a distant memory.

I found his comment to be quite relelant and exactly on target.

specifically this part. - "You've swallowed a bunch of shit and have vomited it here. The paranoids on the right have had their brains, such as they are, in overdrive because of fear."

idiotic post... I mean the question posed is a valid one, but the underlying paranoid right wing psycho talk radio rant that thinks because Obama repealing the Bush tax cuts putting them back to where they were under CLinton is cause for revolt. We were prosperous under Clinton. Rich, poor and middle class ALL had it better at those rates.

We have 6000 miles of border and thousands of miles of seaboard. We cant stop arms from entering Iraq which is the size of one of our states. There wont be a problem getting those kinds of arms into this country. And like most uprisings a lot of it will be taken from the the govt on abandoned trucks or overrun convoys.
