Take them seriously, hmm.. well sure why not, wouldn't really lay money on it but I don't doubt the sincerity. I 'quit' a couple times before it really took :)

i think it's embedded in your genes. i've seen people who go through all of the treatment and patches in the world but in spite of their good intentions they just can't break the habit.

it's too bad.

I just quit last night after going to the doctor with a cough and wheeziness.

I've quit 7 or 8 times before, the last was just back in march (that lasted a month, until my mother came to visit - I started smoking about a week prior, and got back up to my pack a day habit by the time she got here)

I'm still in my late 20's, and my doctor just told me I have COPD.

That and the fact that my dad's got emphysema and will probably die of it shortly but still keeps smoking.

Take me seriously.. I am quit.

Although if and when I am dying of something terminal and unrelated, I make no promises that I won't pick it back up :p

I read an article the other day that said people are more likely to quit if their doctor finds any abnormality on a lung cat scan. would it be bad to lie to them?

Heh.. reminds me of my ex.. she claims she's not a smoker (she WAS a non-smoker when we were going out), but that she "only smokes when she drinks". She called me up the other day from the smoking section in the Atlanta airport... I told her to quit lying to herself.. :p

she went back to a pack a week (only behind my dad's back, though).

Not if he can still smell. You can smell[literally] these addicts from 10ft away.
I would not take them seriously since the success rates I have seen quoted are in the 5-10% range.

I quit last April. Tough to do....I had "tried" to quit before but never really meant it.

Haven't smoked since though and have no desire to smoke again really.
