Do you still have a soft spot for your previous daily driver?

I had a 00' Cavalier and it was a decent car. It wasn't fast, or very fuel-efficient, or even comofortable, but it was cheap to run and maintain and it never had any major issues.
Pretty much this. While I absolutely love my LS, I do miss the simplicity of the old beater Cavvy.

Wow, really? I would've thought the ST would be leaps and bounds above the Golf, in terms of fun factor. Both stick? What's one thing the Golf does better in your opinion than the ST?

One thing nice about driving an old beater around, is you can park wherever the hell you want and not worry about getting dings on your car. It's actually the opposite, other people with nice vehicles have to worry about yours. Now I drive like a granny, eyeballing that MPG gauge, and trying to park as far away from society (at the mall) as I possibly can.

Don't get me wrong, the ST is an impressive vehicle. The difference in power doesn't even compare to my 160 HP Golf. I think it mostly has to do with the understated look that VW has had for a long time. While they share similar materials for the interior, VW has a much more elegant feel to it. My ST seems like a more racer boy type car which is fine but it hasn't really grown on me like I thought it would. I'm seriously debating on getting rid of it soon at the sake of a huge chunk of money wasted.

My current DD is a '01 Civic EX coupe which rolled through 200k miles yesterday. I'm looking at replacing it in about a month but every now and again I just think, nah, I'll keep it, why not? Then I think about the fact that the only upside would be the better mileage vs. a much more enjoyable ride. That and the fact that I'm not sure how much longer it will last.

nope. good riddance to the sentra. the seats were too narrow (made for 130 lb 5' 8" manlets), the speakers rattled at anything over half volume, the cupholders couldn't fit anything larger than a coke can in them, the steering wheel and seat weren't in alignment, the elbow rest was hard plastic, the backseat was cramped, and the suspension wasn't actually competent, just stiff. oh, and the engine had to be cranked two separate times to start (nissan never could figure out what that was about).

i have a soft spot in my heart for the ford taurus that was my first DD, tho.

not at all, that thing was a POS.

1991-1994_Ford_Escort_LX_hatch_front.jpg

1994 ford escort, no power windows, cassette player, etc. it was passed down to me 2nd hand in 2003, and I drove it until 2006-7 when I got into an accident that damaged it to the point that it wasn't worth the expense of fixing.

towards the end, the drivers seat got broken by a valet driver who adjusted it forward, but I couldn't push it back afterwards, so I spent that last year or so hunched over the steering wheel because I didn't have the money to fix it.

I really only have a soft spot for my first car. A 2001 Nissan altima with a salvaged title and tail signal lights that burned out randomly due to electrical issues.

Just love that thing. All my other cars were new and premium / luxury and they just didn't have the character. Current cat is infinitely better but I guess I had that Nissan in my college years and you just dont have the same memories.

99 passat, yes i miss it in some ways. 4 doors, a lot of fun and beautiful, classic lines that VW has not reproduced since.

So, you accidentally ran into a leaf?

lol... I sorta ran through a stop sign and got hit by a car driving 50 in a 25 (I stopped, saw the car, but estimated that I had plenty of time to clear the intersection because I didn't realize how fast he was going). I estimated wrong, and the car hit me square on against my back tires, shattering the rear axle.

on the plus side, the force of the impact fixed a chronic back problem I'd been suffering from, and since the other guy was actually driving without insurance, he didn't bother filing a claim either.

I miss mine. 03 Focus. Simple, comparable ride, no rattles. Morgue freezing A/C. Nice and agreeable handling and steering.

97 Ford Probe, cherry bomb exhaust, limo tint all around. Two 12" Subs with 1000w amp...ah the good old days
