I HATE HEAT.

Last night, at 6:30 PM, it was 94F... can't remember the humidity. I'd guess it was somewhere around 50-60%. I was operating heavy machinery (baling round bales) on a farm... I was HOT. My dad told me to start stacking square bales of hay on a wagon, at that heat... my response was to continue round baling.

I can tolerate up to around 80F without bitching too much... but that's about it. Any more warm, and I start getting pissed.

I would much prefer tons of snow. Being too cold cannot be a problem for me, whereas heat makes me want to shut down quickly.

... Or even better, just staying inside as much as possible (the sun is my sworn ENEMY), in as low of a temperature as possible. At my last job, I would find every excuse I could to do stuff in any of the server closets... they were all kept at 60-65 F. Everyone else would put on a coat before they went in, and then leave as soon as they could... I'd roll up my sleeves, sit down at a workstation in the server room, and work from there, in the comfy environment. :D

Working outside is like air conditioning compared to where I work.

Imagine putting yourself 10 feet down in a two foot diameter hole where you are surounded by steel that is 180 F which is covered with oil and water. Usually I only spend 1/4-1/2 hour down there every hour or so, but you might be down there for an hour swinging a hammer or throwing grinder sparks all over yourself.

Hey, someone has to make the axles on your car.

What the hell do you do in a confined space like that?

I'm a diemaker, actually my classification is Die Repairman

I refurbish the tooling. I'm ususally down there with a few air grinders and an air chisel. Heating steel to 2250 F and squishing it into a shape causes a good deal of erosion to your forming steels. If it breaks I'm there to fix it.

The Upsetters (where they make the axles) are like a very large press with two rams coming in at right angles, only the press is laying on its side. One ram actually comes in a holds the round stock while the other forms the heated end. The axles move from top to bottom being formed more through a series forming steels until the final flange is made.

I have to crawl down into the opening where all of these forming steels are. I call it industrial mountain climbing.

Jesus. You better have some good lock-out, tag-out procedures. ;)

It would have to be around 120-130F for me to think it's too hot. I love the outside heat. :sun:

But it had better be *cold* when I come in for some lemonade!

Did an oil change outside today, wasn't that bad. I'm used to the heat though, the cold is what really bothers me.

Well, it was humid as hell around midday...but not too bad later on.

The results of my afternoon: Went from this to this.

Note the wet spot on the muffler and middle of the sway bar...yes, the rubber plug GM so thoughtfully installed on the stock rear end cover to hold in the differential fluid would spray gear lube all over everything when it got hot. :| All fixed now.

It's always about 20% humidity here and I'll ride my bike as long as it's under 120 or so. Then it's straight to the pools.
