Yes used and new, usually online thru Amazon or one of their distributors, there is a difference in quality especially with classical or instrumental pieces compared to the current lossy formats being offered for download.

Why do you have to "go to the store" to purchase? I buy CDs online (Very Distro) and at shows all the time.

Same here.

Not in the last 5 years... But then again there hasn't been anything worth buying in that time either.

I buy them online.

I don't buy them like I used to (Used to buy 4 or 5 albums every week), but I still buy a couple dozen discs per year....

Agreed on MP3s -- my sound system makes all the compression artifacts audible at home so I can't stand them unless I use them on my player for the gym.

That being said, if you want to use a computer for your music, look into lossless conversions using a variety of methods (FLAC is one I remember). I've used that, and the sound is indistinguishable from the original CD. My new media streamer doesn't recognize FLAC though so I have re-encode into a different format. :(

Oh, and I do buy CDs but not very often. I usually wait for a good sale through BMG and get 10 or so for about $7 each including shipping. I haven't purchased any in awhile though.

In my entire life, I've bought two music CDs. Both while in HS. One was Christmas songs the other was a gift for my sister. I used to listen to the radio when I did my homework but grew out of that in college. Now the only time I really listen to music is when I'm in the car and the radio is good enough for me.

I bought three CD's yesterday. This was also the first time I bought CD's in my life. I'll admit it felt strange going through the music isle. Then I came home and ripped them to flac and put it on my rockbox iriver.

Plus my beyerdynamics came in that afternoon and I needed some lossless stuff to try em out. (Couldn't find the stuff I wanted in lossless in the bay).

I haven't bought a Music CD in probably 10+ years. And I don't download them either unless I'm just looking for a specific song. I just listen to the radio or the CDs I have from back in the day...

Not in the past couple of years actually.

If I bought one, I'd just rip it to MP3 right away and never touch it again anyways.

I have tons of CD's from pre-90's. That music still remains my favorite. With directv, we have a ton of music stations that we listen to from time to time. My drive to work is 5 minutes long; I listen to NPR. My wife has Sirius in her van. Most music of the past few years has been crap. Therefore, why would I buy any CD's?

(With the lone exception of a couple of blues bands that have played locally that I went to see and decided to support by purchasing their CD's.)

For the most part, no, but not because I've given up and stuck myself in some 90's time warp and proclaimed there's nothing new worth listening to.

I do not desire to own shelves of physical media any more, it wastes too much space. And the convenience of instant access to thousands of files on a computer or media server is too much to ignore. Even the sonic advantage of "full bit rate" CD's over MP3's has been eroded by industry-wide piss poor mastering. It all sounds like crap, regardless of its bit rate.

I'm still hanging on to my several hundred CD's because I'm not eager to spend the time converting them to FLAC, and I still like the idea of having the artwork/liner notes (although in practice I don't look at them any more).

I'm waiting for the format war to settle and until then will stay with 8-track cartridges.

Had to say yes in the poll because my younger daughter wanted the soundtrack of HS Musical 2 for X'mas & I bought her the cd ... last time before that was nearly a year ago when I snagged an Alice Cooper collection.

I buy CDs regularly from my local, independent cd store (B Side). They tend towards indie music but also sell mainstream stuff if it's good. Overall their cds are the highest density of quality stuff in the city.

I'm always surprised at the number of people who claim that nothing good comes out anymore. It makes me wonder if they have substantially different taste than I do or if they simply don't have an avenue for non-mainstream music. I thought 2007 was a GREAT year for music... there's quality stuff for most tastes in a wide variety of genres: Ryan Adams, Okkervil River, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, Feist, The Shins, Blonde Redhead, Elliot Smith, The National, Wilco, Dinosaur Jr, Spoon, The Good The Bad & The Queen, Iron & Wine, etc.

Yes. I don't know if I'd ever buy music off of the internet. I like a tangible product in my hand.

Always buy CDs, I like being able to rip it to whatever format I want, having a physical copy and it sounds better than some compressed format.

I buy CDs, I can't bring myself to spend full price for MP3s. It just seems like kind of a ripoff because you're getting a product of inferior quality (audio quality is worse and you don't get all the nice packaging either). I really do enjoy getting a new CD, opening it up and admiring all the artwork. Plus I like the freedom of being able to rip to any format I want.

Yes, but only the ones I have heard before (by whatever means) and only the ones that I really liked. RIAA must really hate me.
