Do you still buy audio CDs?

I listen to a lot of music that I can't download, and it's nice to have a couple disks sitting around the car for when my ipod runs out of juice.

I probably average like 1 cd every 1-2 months.

when I want to physically own a copy of the music that I can do *ANYTHING* with, I buy the CD. Coldplay (X&Y, A Rush of Blood to the Head), Angel City Outcasts (Let It Ride, Deadrose Junction), and Streetlight Manifesto (Keasbey Nights) are the CD's that I own.

Have you listened to Streetlight's newest album? I think that one is worth owning, more so than the remake of Keasbey Nights.

Buy many cd's from ebay and Amazon. 1 Cent CD bargains on ebay can still end up being "bargains" even with the shipping!

..can't stand the sound of compressed mp-3's. Classical music and jazz sound best on cd's. as for rap..well, who cares.

Classical and jazz do sound great on CDs, but with the amount of jazz I listen to, it would literally take me decades to amass what I listen to. Instead, I use Rhapsody so I can listen to everything now. I have a really nice audio setup, but in the end it comes down to the music itself - not how clear it sounds.

I agree to a certain extent. For me though, some music (a lot of good classical) isn't worth listening to unless its high quality (too many details get lost and everything just blurs together). I think that is a reason why some people like jazz and classical, is because its easy to find high quality recordings.

With the prevalence of headphones, I think it would be nice if artists would start experimenting with binaural recording. Thats one way that they could start advancing digital distributions (its easier to have multiple versions that way, and I think people are more likely to at least give it a try).

i buy my cd's at newbury comics, used, unless it's something i really, really want. i do not buy music online, because i want a tangible item (disc, cover and case) and i don't want unnecessary e-billing, DRM and lousy quality.

I personally prefer having a physical copy that I know will work in any CD player, and I know that if/when a new format that is better than mp3 while being as ubiquitous as mp3 is now comes along I can get all of my music into that new format. I also like being able to rip to the file format of my choosing at the quality of my choosing, while not being locked into any specific player with the DRM from the online music services (iPod for iTms, Zune, etc...).

Yeah, but only once in a great while. Last one I got was Apocalyptica's Worlds Collide. They're one of the only bands that I follow nowadays. Good stuff. Not much else if anything that holds my interest.

Yes, prefer to rip it myself and not deal with DRM in case I change mp3 player brands. Also like physically owning the packaging for music I like, i know , it's kind of stupid.

I dont normally..but my wife got me two for xmas... Best of Jimi Hendrix and the soundtrack from that Beatles movie earlier this year... the name currently escapes me.

Edit: Across the Universe is the name of the soundtrack

Yes, i still buy but not from a store. It's all online now. There aren't any stores around anymore to buy from

Nope, you couldn't pay me to put any support into the record companies. Most new music sucks, though, so this works out fine I think the last cd I bought was St. Anger, which also happened to suck.

Yup. Then I rip it and store the CD. That way it doesn't get scratched from use and I always have the original backup incase I need to re-rip or something.
