I've got a couple coworkers that I'm friends with outside of work, including 2 who I was friends with before we started working together.

outside of them, I don't really socialize with my colleagues when I'm not being paid to.

Last place I worked at, absolutely. A bunch of us were board game junkies and got together weekly and drank beer and played board games. I also played basketball and video games with a bunch of doctors I supported. Have some great friendships there.

If by socialize, you mean company-sponsored social events (picnics, holiday parties, etc), I generally avoided those at all costs. At past companies I've had a few friends who would go out for drinks with me on occasion, however.

Nope.
I skip company events too -- which I get looked down upon for.

I spend more time here, with these people, than my wife and kids. If I have "free time" I'm not going to spend it with them. I'm going to spend it with people of my choosing.

Yes

In fact most of my friends out here are co-workers. Working with people I didn't enjoy being around would be fucking miserable.

I'm looking at the poll now, do most people dread going in to work if you also don't bother socializing with anybody? I didn't think I'd be in the minority of actually liking people the people I work with enough to hang out with them on the outside.

That's quite a leap to not being buddies to dreading work. It's called being a professional, you do what you're paid to do. I'd guess you're a low level employee.
