There's nothing like flying down a mountain at 30mph knowing that if you fall, all you have to do is roll and slide, and you can get right back up!![]()
Unless your skis pop off and go shooting down the mountain ahead of you, leaving you to walk down.
Or unless you fall and break your wrist snow boarding after trying and failing miserably to do a 720![]()

Been snowboarding for 20 years.
There was a statistic in USA today that showed the progression of the peple on the slopes. At one point there were more snowboarders than skiiers. But now it's about 50/50.

I believe it
When I go to the more local slopes in SoCal (like Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead) the ratio is more like 85/15 for snowboarders

Yup. And 90% of those boarders are either on their knees or a$$. Very annoying.

I can do both about equally, and I enjoy both but having said that I enjoy both at different times.
Skiing is much easier to relax and negotiate very hard terrain without wearing myself out and enjoy the scenery. It kind of reminds me of a manual car(snowboarding) vs. automatic(skiing). Not that skiing is any easier, but that its not as strenuous on your muscles and stuff for the same experience on a snowboard. Snowboarding in powder is much easier than skiing, and falling is a little easier, but skiing its easier to move around on flat terrain. You also can lose your skis if you fall, luckily I can't remember the last time I fell skiing.
Overall I enjoy going on the mountains as a time to relax and enjoy the mountain not to get a work out so skiing wins for me.

I have never tried boarding, but I've been skiing for many years. I really stink at skateboard, is that any indicator of how I would pick up snowboarding?
On skis, I can go all day without falling, ski backwards, pick up another person's gear and make it down some icy crap without poles. I'm getting old enough to avoid the air time though![]()
