Do you say "Bless You!"

The origin of saying "God bless you" when a person would sneeze:

When a person sneezed, it was considered an opportunity for satan to enter your body. Another person saying "God bless you" would stop satan from doing so.

Needless to say, I think (imo) it's pointless to say bless you.

bless you...yes
god bless you...no

out of habit, I believe it started on the false belief that your heart stopped when you sneezed.

In response to those citing politeness, I would say that I don't recognize the politeness in blurting out a nonsense phrase when someone sneezes.

But I would recognize the politeness in not busting my balls for saying it to you. 🙂

I agree with SpunkyJones. I usually only say it if I know the person or if the sneezer is a hot chick.

I would prefer that you said spaghetti instead. Why don't you try that for a week and report back.

I never say anything. And I think the people that get upset when they say it to me and I don't say "thank you" back are funny dolts.

I never got into the habbit, nobody around me at home ever did it, so....never saw the need. I don't see it as impolite not to say it any more than I see it as polite to say it.

I hate it when people say it as I sneeze consecutively because now I have to say thank you consecutively... they're giving me unnecessary work. 😛

Just don't say anything back at all.

I usually do, don't see any reason to not be polite.

I don't consider it impolite if no one does it for me. It's a sneeze. If anything I'll laugh at myself if it comes out weird. Otherwise just move on.
