Do you say "Bless You!"

Whenever I sneeze and someone says "Bless you" to me, I say, "I don't have any demons in me, why would you think that I do?" They usually look at me puzzled, and I explain that 'bless you' originated with people who thought that a sneeze was the bodies way expelling demons and that saying 'bless you' helped to prevent them from reentering.

If the person who said it is fun to hassle or kind of a jerk, I might follow up with something like, "so do you really believe I have demons in me, or do you just go around saying stupid things to people with no idea why you are saying them or what they even mean?"

It's possible they look at you funny because of your inability to just say "Thanks", and that they weren't looking for an inaccurate description of why people say "Bless you" 😉

Ya, that's what makes it funny.

Generally I say 'gesundheit'.

If it's someone I'm familiar with, I say 'did you get any on you?' 😛
