Do you put on deoderant before working out?

I hadn't thought of this before, but some guy at the gym said he dosent put on deoderant before he works out. He said that since he is going to sweat anyway, he dosent need something on him trying to keep him from sweating and keeping him from regulating his body temperature.

What are you thought on this? Strictly for working out.

Not really. I put it on in the morning before I go to work and that gets me through the entire day, even if I go to the gym and/or go for a run.

I'm not really a big sweater, but I usually don't put on deodorant before working out. Also, I don't think a product that is strictly a deodorant and not antiperspirant will keep you from sweating.

I use some of the new Clinical Strength deodorant. You put it on at night after your shower, and it lasts until the next evening.

Sometimes I do. I don't use antiperspirant, just deodorant, so it doesn't keep me from sweating, it keeps me from being revolting.

Same here. You should tell Mr. Smelly to do the same. Working out with no deodorant... blegh. I've smelled some pretty sheisty smelling guys and it always takes my focus away. SO TELL HIM TO DEODORIZE HIMSELF! Or stab him. Both are acceptable 😛

I don't like sweating. It ruins my Banana Republic undershirts. I'm considering getting Botox in my armpits. It completely stops sweat.

Two years ago, a study in the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that Botox injections were a safe and effective treatment for excessive armpit sweating. Today's study indicates that it also reduces body odor.

Researchers at Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich injected 16 healthy volunteers with no history of abnormal body odor with Botox under one arm and a placebo solution under the other arm. They were given cotton T-shirts to wear for 24 hours after being instructed not to eat asparagus, garlic or onions or to have close contact with their partners for two days.

After those 24 hours, the armpit sections of the T-shirts were cut out and placed in glass bottles. T-shirt sniff tests then were performed.

T-shirt sections from the Botox-treated armpits had significantly less unpleasant odor. In addition to reduced odor intensity, they also had a more pleasant smell.

Botox works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which, in turn, deactivates nerves that stimulate sweat glands.

Botox also may interfere with microbes on the skin.

Safwan Jaradeh, chairman of neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, said he has a handful of patients with excessive sweating problems whom he has successfully treated with Botox.

The injections last four to eight months, he said.

Cost for the Botox treatment is roughly $400.

I use deoderant. Not antiperspirant, so the sweating thing's resolved. Yeah, I typically put in on in the morning, and I'll put another layer on if I head to the gym.

An attorney friend of mine has a serious sweating problem. He cannot wear an undershirt more than 4 times without it permanently smelling and getting discolored. Yes, he washes his laundry. He buys nine (9) Banana Republic 'Essential Stretch Crews every month:

(3) x Black
(3) x Charcoal
(3) x White

Total Cost per Month: (9 shirts) x ($18/shirt) = $162
Cost over 6 Month Period: (6 months) x ($162/month) = $972

Cost of Botox per 6 Months = $400

That said, he is on his second armpit Botox procedure. It saves him money, it saves him embarrassment. Worth it.

Why do you only use deodorant? Antiperspirant + Deodorant will stop the sweating and make you smell decent.

I never put on deodorant before going to the gym. I just roll out of bed and go, I'm lucky if I even put on clean clothes.

Because I don't need to, and it messes with the lymphatic system IIRC. I don't have excessive sweat at the armpits, and I generally only wear one layer of relatively loose clothing (ie: polo shirt). Aside from formal occasions (where I wear multiple layers), anything that gets out evaporates pretty quickly and is almost never visible.

Doesn't mess with lymphatic system. That is a common misconception.

I'd rather let my body sweat. I like things au naturale, tyvm. Why are so many people AGAINST sweating? Wtf, it's a normal bodily response.

I think I'd go for some cheaper shirts if I'm chucking them every month before getting botox in my pits to save some dough.

It ruins clothes. It gives you wet-pit. It smells. It is a sign of weakness.

Eh, I have one of each color Banana Republic Essential Stretch Crews. They are the most comfortable shirts I have.

Meh. I dont put on deodorant. I don't sweat excessively. I've had the same undershirts I wear to the gym for close to 2 years now, and they are still just about as white and fresh as the day I bought them.

Hm. Or rather it's a healthy way to keep an equilibrium in your body. It doesn't ruin clothes unless you're a freaking mutant. Who gives a crap about wet-pit while at the gym? And it doesn't smell if you deodorize! How the heck is it a sign of weakness? I don't know where you're from, but I tend to respect the guys that show they're working their butts off by sweating up a storm.

<- Mutant. Clinical strength antiperspirant and I still sweat a lot.

I actually had to try it out 'cause I was sweating so much. I decided whatever. It kept me cool and gave me a nice, oiled down shine when I was running with my shirt off 😛 I really just don't care as much since it didn't ruin too many shirts that I care about. Now I just wear hand-me-down shirts from parents and such when lifting.
