I played in HS

HAd a illegal 40 card all black deck...

4 Hyptnoic Knights + +2/+1 upgrade, 1 Queen, 1 Assassin (I had three, but this was my all-or-nothing in 10 rounds or I lose)

I made some money due to arbritrage (sp?) too.

edit: I got out when someone jacked all my cards. (Valued maybe at $1,000) I had some really good cards I was suppose to sell for my cousin at the local card store too that day :(

Can't forget the shiva dragons.

That sounds just fine, just fine indeed. However, there's nothing like a Creature Lightning bolt... readily available to do some major damage if an opponent's creatures are gone. I always try to keep a counterspell-like card (Power Sink, Counterspell, Force of Will (which i understand is on the watch list) in my hand while playing him though.

Hmm... im trying to think, what cards allow you to pay a few and untap a creature? artifact perhaps? think Intake, think.... must increase winning opportunity. Winning by the skin of your teeth is exciting, but is a dangerous way of living.

You are correct.

Man, when you talk smack, and then you go head-2-head, and winning by a like 2 hp (been so long, I forgot the life name), then you get all excited

Its not relaly fun running over someone.

My deck was made to try to "sucker-punch" the opponent to death under 10 rounds.

I used to play a Red/White Destruction/Protection deck... with some green thrown in
my best combo was of course the Channel-Fork-Fireball... until, fork i think, became banned in competition... i'd peck ya to death with lightning bolts... protect myself with circles.... build my manna and life.... then poof... yer dead with a 40 point fireball forked for the overkill effect :D

Hot rares go for $10 - $15 if they are from a recent set. Foils go for more. Older cards are a little more in demand right now because it is Extended PTQ season so people are looking for the older, power cards.

Are foreign language cards, black bordered cards and artist-signed cards still popular? I still remember trading a Jester's Cap for a foreign Mana Drain. :)

I dont know if they are popular anymore, I just like to have the cards...

one of my favorite combos I performed with my Green Spike Deck...

1) get 2 spike soldiers out with a Spike Feeder.
2) Attack with a spike soldier.
3) Channel for 10 Colorless to Transfer the 3 counters from the other spike soldier, and the 2 counters from the spike feeder to the attacking spike.
4) Remove all Counters from the Attacking Spike, giving him +2/+2 until end of turn for each counter removed (the 8/8 spike becomes a 16/16 until end of turn, at which, he will die.
5) Giant Growth it as many times as I can. (twice) (attacking spike is now a 22/22)
6) in case of blocking creatures.... BERSERK! (spike is now a 44/22 with trample)

(granted, I've only had the opportunity to do it once... but it was awesome and memorable!)

Hmm, I used to play it a lot a couple of years ago. I began when Revised were new, played until the Urza sets came out, been wanting to start again but I would need card from the new sets for that and my computer always want to be upgraded...
I've always played red, although I'll probably play other colours when I get the money and make a new deck.
My fave deck was Sligh, nothing like beating your opponent in four turns (channel/fireball doen't count), and I knew it would be fast games since it pretty much loses it's steam if the game lasts long.

I used to play from the time 5th edition came out until Tempest. I was pretty good but got sick of getting my ass kicked by 11 year old with the deck de jour.

Played MtG a long time ago, back when you they just decided to have a Type I and Type II setup. My "best" decks were:

1. 4 color, all direct damage (every possible direct damage, in every color except white). Completely creatureless, had all dual lands, strip lands, mox's, all the nice blues. About 50% of the deck was restricted to one. I won many, many tournaments with it.

2. 4 color, land destruction (no white). I would be destroying land by round one and you would be living under a Vice until death. Pretty consistant win.

3. 4 color, super Kird Ape (no white). It had weeny creatures, until I did 3x Giant Growth, Berserk and Fork'd the Berserk. That 1/1 creature now killed you in one shot.

4. "Balance" decks (red/white/blue). Damn that deck owned. Completely creatureless (sometimes artifact creatures). Balance is now restricted and this kind of the deck is the reason why.

Those were my most winning decks and when I played in tournaments, the first three are what I played and won with. You couldn't defeat two identical decks, all direct damage when we focused on one person -- I remember dealing 18 points of damage to one person on the first round.

MtG went the way with more creatures and spells that didn't involve direct damage, so I lost interest.

SendTrash - The new program is much, much better than Apprentice. Apprentice and NetDraft both have a decent following, but I predict that most will switch to the new program. The best thing about the new program is that it enforces the rules.

only problem I see about the new one, is people are gonna have to buy online cards n stuff. I already have a crapeload of cards that i bought, why should I have to dump MORE money into MTG :)

because its fun, THATS WHY.

I used to have a really nasty black & blue deck. I would basically counter or send back with blue anything I could not kill with black. It was really good for friendly games, rather than freak-ass tourneys.

Ive still never successfully build a good black deck... I tried to make a discard deck, based around megrim, but It always got too big, and megrim never popped up. :(

my white weenie was awesome... My weenies and life would keep me going forever, then I combined Belbe's Portal and the Avatar of Hope (Flying 7/7 Can block any number of creatures) to get my big gun out as fast as possible... he would destroy.

On a suggestion from myself, I devised a red Land Destruction/Haste deck on saturday... Playtested it against a friend of mine (who is the best player I know) and ended up beating all three of his decks, multiple times. Only 'problem' is that it takes 3 mana to really get rolling (all LD takes at least 3 to work), but hopefully I have a raging goblin or other in my hand. My strategy is to keep their mana and creatures off the table long enough to get my pyrosaur or shiven out, and pump the crape outta them. I threw a sol ring in there as well, so if im lucky, I get 2nd turn land destruction...

mmmm control.

I used to play. I still have cards and have played on rare occasions. I liked Green decks or decks with themes. I built a dragon deck one time that was very sweet.

I used to play Magic like it was my job back in the day... I had all sorts of decks... it really depended on what the other player was using...

I had some weird combo decks... like

Black and white
or
Red and Green
or
Green and black (Thalids are great creatures to sacrifice to a lord of the pit)

I never used a color by itself, that I remember.... It was fun while I played it, but it died a quick ugly death.

I won the local 1.5 tourney yesterday. I went 4-0 in matches and 8-0 in games. Land Tax is really good.
