My brother does this from time to time. His pizzas are pretty good.
I prefer Lou Malnati's, so I would rather just get lou malnatti's.

Lou Malnati's, Girodano's, and Gino's East, and Pequod's are holy shrines of Chicago. Everyone prefers their pizza to home made because they use magic to make their pizzas.

I do not, but my brother in law does and brings me some from time to time. They have a family restaurant so apparently I married into some free food. :D

If you wish to make a pizza from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

Just got a cast iron pizza pan and love it. Wife and I have been making homemade pizzas for a few years now.

Simply using fresh mozzarella and block cheese cut into thick slices really enhances the texture and flavor of the cheese.

Is homemade pizza necessarily healthier than restaurant made?

Well, it can be because you control the ingredients. Otherwise, not really. Iconic pizza places also make pizza like nobody else because their ovens have been seasoned through decades of use. You can't replicate that anywhere.

This is exactly why I prefer restaurant pizza. If I had a gnarly brick oven, then I'd make pizza and sell it lol

Absolutely. You can make your crust either partly or entirely from whole wheat flour which has more fiber, you can use less salt if you're watching your sodium intake, etc. I like to use turkey pepperoni as a topping since it's so much lower in calories than regular pepperoni.

I've been doing it for a while now based off of this recipe: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2013/01/foolproof-pan-pizza-recipe.html

I find I still have to stretch the dough out as it won't naturally settle to fill the pan like he says. Other than that, it's a pretty carefree way to do it on weekday nights. I make a pizza once a week. I just wish I could find some better cheese. I have a few varieties of fresh mozzarella but, I agree with what the recipe says that it has too much moisture. The only dry mozzarella I can find is like Kraft or Sargento.

You sir are disgusting! Those things taste like crap.

No, they don't. Cutting back on extra calories is how I lost 65 pounds.

nope.
Besides, home-made pizza is not the same pizza as the one cooked in a correct pizza oven (wood burning and everything), to me they're almost 2 different foods.

EDIT: I just found out you call hot salami pepperoni, lol.
Turkey salami may taste ok to some people but it's still a surrogate that doesn't taste like the real thing. But more power to you if you like it, everyone has his priorities.

I bought turkey pepperoni from the store once by accident and it seemed fine. It's not like putting Tofu on your pizza or anything. Local lady also sells Gluten Free crusts.

When I make a pizza though I go full fatty :) No cutbacks! Chicken and Pepperoni is my fave. Use foster farms chicken usually, good stuffs.

Yup. Turkey Pepperoni is awesome. The real stuff seems so greasy now. I also lower the cheese and focus on a really good sauce. Never realized how sauce really makes or breaks a pizza.

I don't make my own pizzas, but I should really teach myself how.

^yeah I use a pizza stone too. They seem to make even frozen pizzas better, but for homemade, the best results I get is pan style, in a cast iron skillet. Lots of sauce & cheese, italian sausage, peppers & onions. Make the quick recipe on the pizza yeast packet, or bread machine recipe, it's hard to mess up.

Yep, all the time; I like screwing around with different toppings. Seriously considering picking up a pizza stone actually.
