is not what the clothing is, its what it represents. I don't feel there is a lot of difference whether a horse(Polo) or a plaid(Burberry)

what it represents 😕 god you must be 12, clothing doesn't REPRESENT ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you buy and wear any of the 3 brands you listed in your first sentence it means you are a mindless sheep that just follows the stupid masses, no one and i mean NO ONE of any importance give a flying sh!t if you wear clothes from AF or have that damn 250$ UGLY burberry scarf,

grow up and get over yourself

all people care about is if you look nice and presentable for whatever you need to do, and you can do that with clothes from fusking walmart

I wear white, button down long sleeved, collared shirts from wal-mart and Khakis from Old Navy for work. 🙂

You know why I don't buy it? Because I don't want to look like I go to an upper middle class high school and think I'm hot sh!t. I know not everyone who wears A&F is like that...but that's the impression the clothes give nevertheless.

amen.

This is the most moronic place to discuss fashion that I can think of. Most here have no concept of what is "nice" and think that Walmart clothes is all that anybody needs. Enjoy trying to be successful in life when you get a job working in a nice cushy office wearing that stuff. Appearance *does* matter in the real world.

When you finish high school, good luck getting a job working in a nice cushy office wearing Abercrombie & Fitch. It's definitely not something you'd wear in a business setting, even with a relaxed dress policy, if you want to be taken seriously.

Appearance DOES matter, and Walmart clothes don't really cut it, but I bet you could find more office-appropriate clothes at Walmart than you could at Abercrombie & Fitch.

Great...you've got an attractive gf. I've got an attractive fiancee. Is this the point we argue over who's e-penis is larger?

AF is not business attire. I'd be seriously impressed if you could manage to find an AF store that sold "business professional" attire. There's a large difference between what is worn for everyday use and what is worn in the professional world.

While I do have some plain shirts from Hollister (a cheaper brand of A&F) and some clothes from AE, I prefer thrift stores. I couldn't possibly care less about brand recognition, and yes, A&F is ridiculously overpriced. I could cut holes in my own jeans, thank you very much. The crazy thing is that, the 'holier' the jean, the more ridiculously priced it becomes. Just my thought.

cheers,
KiM

I prefer to know people who like me for me and not what I wear

EDIT: Oh and when you're talking about business atire, it's a entirely different subject. AF does not = business attire. And all the girls/friends you're getting with the "brandname" and "recognition" will probably ditch you in a second if that's all they like you for.

Quoted for truth... again AF isn't high fashion or dressy/professional clothing, it's just a slightly more expensive version of the same generic teen mall store stuff. Anyone who thinks AF is "fashion" or "nice clothes" doesn't know crap about clothing. So this debate as a whole is especially pointless and annoying.

no. nothing to do with quality or prices, I just don't like the fit of their clothes. I always feel uncomfortable when I wear them.

So can we come to a conclusion that:
1. AF is overpriced crap (I still won't believe this from a social standpoint, due to my argument pertaining brand recognition.)
2. AF cannot be worn in the workplace, BUT WALMART CANNOT EITHER. I hope we can all agree that Walmart truly is utter crap.

oh and props to those that actually voted for brand recognition in the poll. You were honest, unlike some of the people in this thread. The real question is if you had an unlimited budget for clothing, would you buy AF? I still wouldn't simply because I've seen better, but some of the people who like AE/Old Navy/Hollister would go buy AF.

No I still wouldn't but AF....I have better things to do with my money than to buy overpriced crap.

I just buy what I think looks good on me. If I see a pair of jeans I like, whether it's at A&E, Express, what-have-you, I'll buy them. I tend not to shop at places like Kohls, Walmart, Target, etc, because the clothes there rarely have the style and cut that I like.

I'm not sure I see the problem with this.😕

no offense to the OP but you seem to be missing the fact that unlike yourself "most" people couldn't care less about " brand recognition". most people buy what they like and what fits them well regardless of where its from

and YES you can wear clothes from Walmart to work and not look like a fool, i believe someone commented on this above in the thread

No you moron, we're all being honest. Those of us who didn't vote that we liked it for the brand recognition obviously have been in situations where A&F's "brand recognition" is not a benefit, or is a detriment. i.e. we're not in high school! They're not clothes you wear if you want to be taken seriously.

first of all anyone who would be impressed by you wearing A&F is a damn fool......the quality sux. They dont fit anyone that is above normal build(read: big not fat)........its expensive....The clothes are ugly.....unoriginal.......stale......shittie material....the list goes on.

the only ppl that wear that stuff are HS kids, college kids with no personal style....and ppl whose mom still shops for them.

Polo, burberry.....designer labels......those clothes last much longer, do not fade, and fit properly. I rock polo and nautica on daily basis.

edit:

Those who say appearance don't matter....you couldnt be further from the truth....perhaps in your backwoods hick town

if you are 40 years old married and content with your job then fvck it shop at wallmart or good will but for asomeone who is young and has higher aspirations and ambitions.....most cases will need to dress to impress....at all times.

now that i'm in the real world, unless i am going to the gym, i leave my house wearing clothes that would previously been reserved for a special night out on the town....style is important, having some class is very important....once you've made it as far as you want to go ......then walmart will do.

I wear clothes to keep myself covered, not to have people come up to me and say "Dude, I like that brand name of shirt!", so to me they have no value beyond the initial "cool looking factor" and how well they hold up.

That AF stuff has very little cool looking factor, and for $80 or whatever, it would have to wear at least eight times as long as a $10 shirt.

I don't see that happening.

I should have purchased the "Abercrombia & Ditch" t-shirt while I was overseas. 😛

I don't wear A&F because their clothing looks like someone beat the hell out of them and left them out in the sun for years.

Go to Upper West Side and see how many WASPs wear a fvcking $250 scarf. Most people can't understand this on AT. Everyone here wants price/performance(including myself). Its not the fact that I want a $250 scarf, but I can blow $250 on a piece of cloth. And I will say, whoever is head of marketing at AF is one smart bastard.

Fools and their money are soon parted.
