Do you like to blow money on CRAP like $250 sunglasses?

So everybody "blows" money on sunglasses? heh..

I have a couple of pairs of Oakleys (Juliets, Mars, OO, E-Wires, and Pro M Frames). But I don't feel bad or regretful about those purchases, so I don't think I blew my money on them.

I carry a pocket knife that I paid nearly $200 for a few years ago (William Henry Carbon Fiber Lancet). Definitely a cool thing, but I don't really need a pocket knife, and even then a Spyderco half the price would have sufficed. But nevertheless, it has never failed me, and has served me well (if only a rare occasions).

I have a pair of $190 Havana Joe boots. Those.. now those I'm not too excited about. I'll have to see how long they last, before I decide I blew money on it.. but if they were to fall apart tomorrow, I would think I blew my money on them.. by far the most expensive pair of shoes I've ever bought. And they aren't the most comfortable shoes either.

One the early Palms. I bought a PalmPilot Personal (when they were still called PalmPilots). I knew I really didn't have a need for it. I never had problems remember due dates, and todos. I really bought it as a toy, and it was. But it did cost me quite a bit at the time too (I had just graduated HS at the time).

I do have a vice for gadgety things, but I'm definitely not impulsive.. so I don't regret my purchases too much, and am perfectly willing to indulge on occasion. Was tempted by the IWC GST in titanium, but have decided that putting that money towards guitar related things would bring me more enjoyment and be more rewarding in the long run.

<< Cheap sunglass don't protect your eyes as well as expensives ones do. >>

Oh please enlighten me with a scientific study that proves the more you spend on glasses the more they protect your eyes. Some cheapo glasses don't have much protection, but so do some very expensive glasses. The amount you spend has nothing to do with the level of protection. Instead, the materials used affect the level of protection. Well built $25 sunglasses protect just as well as the $250 sunglasses.

Private Pilot test results on Oakley.com

If it's on Oakley's site it is obviously in their favor, but I believe it is excerpted from magazine. Does not show protection, but shows the optical performance of their lenses. In a sense, good optical performance also protects the wearer's eyes by reducing the stress and fatigue.

forgot to mention I have a pair of armani glasses and a pair of oakley rx a frames with irdium ice blue tint. I have only one pair of eyes and they are bad as it is🙁 3+ for me, not as bad as some but bad enough that I can't see too clear from 4+ metre range🙁 which sucks for clubbing as I wear my glasses, would prefer to without but the pair that I have at least look good. And hey it also makes me look smarter and better looking 😉

after wearing actual glasses for years i got a pair of $150 ray-bans and they are soooo much nicer than my $8 foakleys its insance. the quality of the glass is so much better. polarized too. the cheapys just do not compare.

oh, i just bought an athlon XP pretty much to run seti. it rules at seti. gameplay is slightly better but i'm far more limited than my GF3 than i had been by the p3. FSAA is just a fill rate killer.

<< No, I'm pretty cheap and I am definitely a bargain hunter. Every once in a while I do splurge on a consumer electronics purchase of some sort, though. Examples: TV, ReplayTV, PC stuff, CD changer for my car, home audio equipment etc. But even then I don't go nuts, I find the best deal possible. >>

same here. i dont buy pants for more than $30 and try to buy thme @$20 or less.

shirts, never over 20, try to get like 10 or 15 dollar ones.

shoes- 30 to 40

the other day i was at the grocery store and they had generic pop for THIRTY NINE CENTS for a two liter!!!!!!! I GOT FIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀😀😀😀

I work in a factory, most of the people are making around $70k/yr. There is this guy I can't stand at work that takes off his factory clothes and puts on gucci(sp) loafers, a $10k Rolex watch, and about a half a cup of the worst smelling after shave I've ever smelled.

Well I blow a lot of money, more than I should, but I don't consider it to be crap.

I've blown a lot of money on DVDs...I have about 90 of them now. But it's not crap to me because I love movies and watch them very often.

My whole home theater setup is around $2.5-3k total! Again, it's not crap because I appreciate the quality over just watching it through a 20" TV and the built in TV speakers.

I blow about $60 a month on beer (yes, just for myself). But of course I don't think it's crap...I love beer, and I'm not just saying this to fit in...I truly LOVE the stuff, I can't think of any food/drink product that even comes close to my love for this.

And I am just about to blow $200 on joining the LOTR fan club for a 3 year membership...but of course this is NOT crap to me 🙂

Do I really need 4 different editions of LOTR? Yes...yes I do! It's not crap! I have about 40 Tolkien related books (a few duplicates) but none of it's crap!

I blow ungodly amounts of cash on things I love and do not consider to be crap at all, even though almost everyone else in the world might think so. I would never spend $250 on sunglasses though and this is because it's not important for me. I'm happy with my $15 replicas.

I am not an impulse buyer though... I thoroughly research everything.

Hey arcain,

Your right looking at the IWC GST in Titanium......I went out tonight to look at a few of those (SS Models with Black and White Face) and man that thing was a beast...I picked it up and I just could not bring myself to wear it, too bulky and far too heavy.

The titanium would be the only way to go I think as it is supposedly 20-30% lighter, but it is still one bulky watch so do not expect to wear it with a suit...or at least not French Cuffs.

Great looking watch though, just too big and bulky for me, not to mention Resale on them is not that good so if you bought it make sure you get a nice discount as if you decide you don't like it you may take a large hit....

good luck should you get it

<< Are Abercrombe and Fitch clothing any higher quality, any more comfortable, do they last any longer? Nope. Then why do people pay double what other brand clothing costs? The name. If the AF clothes suddenly came with a warranty would it be worth 10 times the amount that normal clothes sell at? Nope, but people will still buy them. >>

Actually A&F clothing is higher quality than stuff you might find at AE, Gap, Old Navy, Structure, Aeropostale, etc. Their clothes have a slight higher thread count than their competitors...you can feel it if you directly compare. I've owned a lot of A&F clothes and I can tell you that they hold up remarkably well over time. I can sell my old A&F clothes on eBay for get about half of what I originally paid for it because peeps recognize the quality.

Their clothes ARE expensive, but they aren't the same as everybody else's.

Don't bitch about people buying expensive things.......its just personal preference. Good sunglasses are better for your eyes than some cheap $10 ones.

good sunglass are nice and all.. but when you break $250 for a pair.. that's insane.

i paid close to that i think.. altho mine were Rx Polarized. I had awires i got for $80 that i was going to Rx, but insurance wise wasn't going to cover and it was going to be more for polarized.

lets see..of stuff I've bought myself. Heh, there's not really that much stuff that I've bought for myself that I've considered wasteful...I've bought a 32" TV when I coulda used one that was 15 years old, but I wanted a new one, and it will be nice to have in college, even if I dont use it more than 2 hours a week now. I bought a used Handspring Visor from my friend for $32.50, too much money, cause its useless to me..I should put it on FS/FT. I have a $250 radar detector (Escort Passport 7500), which has saved me a few times, and failed me once. The biggest waste for me I think was upgrading my car speakers and adding a used base tube. I spent around $600 total on my car audio, and although I really like the $250 deck, I think the speakers sound the same, and the base tube only works less than half the time, and even then it isn't that much base.

I am planning on buying a new pair of perscription oakleys, after I go check out a few places.

What good is money if you don't spend it?! It just sits there in a wrinkled green pile, collecting dust and termites. 🙁 SPEND SPEND SPEND!!! 😀

So what sort of crap do you buy that is really a total waste of money and you know it?

Well, to answer your question, I buy a lot of shoes, even though I don't need them. 😀

Other than that, I think that I spend my money quite wisely: I like buying the best of stuff. Vain? I dont think so. I just believe that if I am buying something, I'd rather invest in something that will last and which I like than buy a cheap version/something I dunt like and end up having to buy another one when it gets spoilt or rergetting my purchase. 😉

<< Strip clubs. I can easily blow a hundred or two there. Thank god I don't go that often. >>

Coke and candy machines at school. I can easily blow an additional $3 a day to drench myself in Coke and crap food. To top it off, its not good for my health either.
