anyhoo...if you think ethanol tastes bad, you should take a chug of isoproponol or methanol...

careful though, you'll go blind...if it doesn't kill you.

alcohol has many forms and many tastes.

You may need to modify your poll to compensate for the different flavors.

he's speaking about ethyle alcohol, of which there is only one type, and one taste. in the various types of liquors produced for consumption, ethyl alcohol is distilled using different methods from different sources. While this produces distinct characteristics, further purification of the ethanol will still leave only one type of chemical structure

So, where do you buy this pure ethyl alcohol so I can tell you if I like the taste?

The 200 proof Ethyl alcohol that my lab has smells pretty good (to me). There is no Benzene in it so I guess it is consumable (non-cancerous) - but I never bothered to try. The version we have underwent a processing using zeolites to break the azeotrope located at 95.6% EtOH (in H2O).

It's them zeolites that makes it taste sure good.

I'll be sure to ask fer'em next time I buy.

There are other things that can be used other than zeolites as well. Zeolites are easy to grow, we grow them in our lab for other research purposes (ETS-10 has natural Ti-O-Ti- quantum wires in them) but in terms of Ethyl Alcohol, the zeolites are highly hydrophillic. They absorb the water preferentially (obviously) and in good quantity as they are highly porous. In addition, they are easy to filter out of the solution.

Most soju is made from diluting pure ethanol with water and adding little flavoring like sugar. Koreans drink this stuff like crazy.

I've had a straight shot of Everclear when I was younger. Not very good, but mixed in punch or juice it's OK.

Good lord get over your pompous self. So congratulations you took a class in chemistry and figured you know some fancy IUPAC name. Which, by the way, IUPAC does recognize many of the old common 'trivial' names to compounds. It is a bunch of BS that it is easier for people to figure things out by using *proper* scientific names; case in point anybody that has worked in a lab knows exactly what MTBE is but if you were to say 2-methoxy-2-methylpropane I guarantee most people would pause for a few seconds there to figure out exactly what you are saying.

Anyhow if it is too hard for you to figure our that ethanol = ethyl alcohol (what would happen if somebody used EtOH) then you probably have bigger problems than name usages.

I work as a research scientist and one of the things that drives me crazy is seeing people trying to act all pompous over some small-minded scientific knowledge.
